Hello everyone
We'd like to share with you our new project - Carnaval De Muertos Playing Cards

Our project consist of 2 decks with fully custom design. Both decks have different courts it is not just recoloring.
These cards were created from scratch, and inspired by Steve Simpson's artwork.

The art is VERY similar to that of the Fuego decks.

They're TOO similar to the Fuego deck! I think the Muertos theme is DEAD now.

They mention that the artwork is "inspired" by Steve Simpson's artwork (from which the Fuego deck is inspired too), but nowhere is mentioned if they got permission to use it!
Another thing that makes no-sense, the deck is produced in Ukraine (Europe) and they are offering free shipping to US backers! This is a joke, not that the difference is too much, but this despise for the EU backers makes me run away from this guys...

A VERY EASY PASS for me

Who's permission we had to ask? It is created FROM SCRATCH
However, if you are talking about Fuego deck creator - Tim - than yes, he is aware of our project and supporting us!

I agree that it makes no-sense, but only if you do not know carrier's postage rates per every destination.

The reason US backers have free shipping - is special US-destination rates, we acquired from our post carrier. This became possible, because 80% of parcels is being shipped to United States.

Created from scratch doesn't mean that this is by any means an original artwork, I can very well create a similar artwork from scratch and it still be a rip-off of your artwork. In this case the similarities are too striking, so I think that a propor authorization/consent from Steve Simpson would be in order, but that's my opinion, if you are ok with using others artwork and call it as yours, then let it be..

As for the shipping, thank you for the clarification.

If this deck came out 2 years ago I would like it a lot. But the way I see it I already own this deck and it's called Fuego. There aren't enough similarities between the two for me to justify spending money on this version.

P.S. Day of the Dead is like the new steampunk. Which begs the question, when is a Steampunk Day of the Dead deck coming out?

With Zombies? Please can there be zombies!? But make it minimalist too, I won't buy if it's not minimalist. And the artist should use his friends faces for the courts. Love that.

$13 for an NPCC deck? Seems a big stretch.
The quality of NPCC is far behind LPCC (I'll not mention USPCC), so charging the same price as an LPCC deck is way too much. You should price your deck according to the quality you're offering.

With that said, I think that using NPCC is a good thing, as it will force them to improve on their quality, specially the cut, which is awful! I still hope that the day will come when an European Playing cards company will be at pair with LPCC and USPCC, but until then, please don't inflationate your prices, as this will only harm you, because you maybe lucky this time and do a good profit, but next time, after people see the poor quality of the deck, you'll not be so lucky!

Good luck.

So, you're saying, that $13 for a deck with metallic inks, embossing, interior and exterior foils and extra cards is too much? As you say, we have nothing to add here...
will force them to improve on their quality, specially the cut
It was not that good, I agree. However, starting from B&E and Memento Mori - it is MUCH better. Easy to ensure if you have any of those decks, and earlier

But overall I agree. We still have room for improvement, and constantly working on it. Thank you for honest opinion, and good luck to you too

I have looked at the campaign page several times and I cannot see the metallic inks mentioned anywhere. Everything else you list is a stretch goal, so that if the stretch goals aren't reached it doesn't happen. So yeah $13 is very pricy considering the stretch goals may not happen.

In poor taste to say that your deck is worth 'x' asking price for features that it doesn't have. Listing them as stretch goals does not allow you to claim they are included in the deck price. You are asking $13 per deck for a basic, unembellished deck, with nothing special about it, in a tuck, with zero features, from a printing company that still has a long way to go before they can be called quality.

I was not impressed by the quality of Bone and Ebon, and I would currently rank them below makeplayingcards.com. Because I have been so vocal about my issues with NPCC quality prior to this, I have avoided pushing that point with further criticisms, I truly believe that NPCC is making an effort to constantly improve what they offer, and see they are making progress, but right now they are not there yet.

This pretty much sums up why $13 is way too expensive.

I don't own any of those decks, but I'm waiting on Dominus, so if that deck as the new improved cut I'll then asset the finish, and the overall new improvements done by NPCC. But as for now I can only base my decision on buying or not based on the decks I own (Chivalry, Indictus, Branle), and the decision is clarely not!

Great

I have been working almost a year on my "Pirate Zombie Cthulhu Steampunk Day of the Dead deck " (with extra skulls on the back) deck and now I find out no one will want it unless it is minimalist.

Gee Wiz ... some collectors can never be satisfied.

Regardless of how I feel about this project I have to give credit where credit is due. I know some people here don't like seals let alone decapitating ones but I think this is a neat idea!

I still have several Fuego! decks and don't really need more sugar skulls but... Suicide Seal! I may be a backer on these, those suicide seals are fantastic! Snagging up a brick just for Suicide Seals though... Yep, Definitely sounds like something I'd do.

Waiting on my latest NPCC produced deck, Chernobyl, to see the quality change first. They should be here before this campaign ends.

You have a problem, Fes. Then again, I guess all of us here do :ugthink:
