Framing Uncut Sheets?
So framing an uncut was mentioned a little in the Gold Arcane uncut thread, but not really discussed.
I was wondering if anyone had a good (semi)cheap recommendation on framing uncut sheets, preferably with plexiglass/plastic on both sides so it could be flipped from time to time.
It doesn't need to be fancy... but I'd to think there's a more acceptable solution than sticking it into a cheap poster frame or going custom, which I tried once by taking an uncut down to a local framing shop, and was quoted $325 (!!!) I don't know if that's a typical quote for framing, and I'm fine with spending some money to make them look nice... I just don't know if I want to spend 8x what I paid for the art inside the frame.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

if you can dismiss the option of having both sides with plastic/glass then try IKEA http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10156326/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I LOVE Ikea. But I'm currently living in Hawaii and we don't any here.
Having plastic/glass on both sides isn't a deal breaker... more just wishful thinking, and hoping to see if anyone else has done it.

Re: Framing Uncut Sheets?
Custom framing will always be very expensive. I've spent $20 to get a large print of a photo of mine, and then 10x that to put it in a frame.
For uncuts, my best option so far has been the $20-40 frames from craft stores. They often have a 24"x30" size that very nicely holds an uncut. With a piece of matte board behind, it looks great and with real glass in it they are nice and clear. Stay away from the plexiglass, that just looks cheap.

Re: Framing Uncut Sheets?
Thanks for the tip. I might have to go check that out. If the plexi looks like it's poor quality, I may just show the front and do like you said a put a piece of matte board behind it. I think glass would be too heavy to do on both sides.Encarded wrote:Custom framing will always be very expensive. BTW, just wanted to say I'm loving every aspect of Aurum. The White Gold box is really quite special.

Aaron Bros. is a good option for buying non custom frames.
Plus they have a lot of sales.
Putting the picture in the frame should be easy.

I want to find a flip book like walmart and the like showcase the posters they are selling. that way I can have several uncuts in a small area.

I'll check them out when I'm in Vegas in early 2013. I'd consider hand carrying a few back if the price is right. Thanks for the tip.Sharpie wrote:Aaron Bros. is a good option for buying non custom frames.

Heh, I've thought about that before. But there are a few uncuts that I think deserve their own place on a wall.DukeBoy wrote:I want to find a flip book like walmart and the like showcase the posters they are selling. that way I can have several uncuts in a small area.

I'm about to frame one of my uncuts, and I have a question...
how do you make the uncut flat? I'm having a hard time working with it because it keeps coiling up

Re: Framing Uncut Sheets?
Try gently rolling it the opposite way, and then let it sit out for a day or two on a flat table. I use little removable sticky tabs to keep my uncut down on the matte board when I'm mounting it all up.CBJ wrote:I'm about to frame one of my uncuts, and I have a question...

Will these sticky tabs leave residue on the sheets?Encarded wrote:Try gently rolling it the opposite way, and then let it sit out for a day or two on a flat table. I do pretty much the same thing
Except I don't roll it the opposite way. I slowly roll it out on the table with the curve down. I weight it down with multiple decks as I go along. I usually use 3 decks across and about 5 down.
I find rolling when you are rolling in the opposite direction you are more likely to get creases.
When I roll it out on the table, as long as I go slow and place a row of decks down as soon as I have a flat area, I avoid any creasing.

Re: Framing Uncut Sheets?
When I roll out my uncuts, I also don't roll it the opposite way (utterfool's right about creasing). But I use heavy books on top of a pillow or towel (again, to avoid creasing) to put on top, like my Windows 7 Configuration Manual or Star Wars Ultimate Visual Dictionary. The heavier the object, the less time to flatten.
As far as framing goes, I e-mailed these guys: http://stores.ebay.com/myusaart1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; about a year back and worked out a good deal.

Re: Framing Uncut Sheets?
The ones I have are Scotch brand "Photo Splits" and the adhesive is actually pretty weak. I can't say I've noticed any residue issues. I've rolled and unrolled quite a few of those things in the last year and they are pretty tough. Just go slowly and evenly and no matter how you get it flat, you should be fine.CBJ wrote:Will these sticky tabs leave residue on the sheets?Encarded wrote:Try gently rolling it the opposite way, and then let it sit out for a day or two on a flat table.
