Duplicate Decks

ADMIN Note - The process for identifying and marking duplicate decks shall be:
1) Determine the one that is in the fewest collections and assume that will be the one to be removed
2) If you do NOT have editor access, proceed to step 6
3) If you have editor access, rename the title as duplicate
4) If you have editor access, add a comment about why it was a duplicate
5) If you have editor access, remove the tuck images or even replace with this image to notify users.
6) Post a comment here to notify the admins about it, linking to all duplicates and the original/to be kept entries.

Ideally we would have a merge function or easy way to point users to the right deck, but for now this is the best we can do

Wouldn't be the only duplicate but apparently I added both of these to my collection somehow, silly me, lol. I suggest removing the one with the least amount of collectors.

Deck 2051 renamed for clarity for being deleted and also deleted. Deck 790 remains and has aka name listed as well.

Thanks for taking care of it. However, now my view seems to have a bug (I had 2051 in my collection). The blank space I highlighted in red. How can I fix this?

I did a quick test - added a temp deck, added to my collection, deleted it. I did not get the issue you described. I also went to your collection and checked a number of views, but didn't see any missing areas. I also went to what I think was the same one you used (http://www.portfolio52.com/collection/354/images/custom) and this is what I see

I THINK what you saw may be a temporary browser issue, especially if there is a non-standard sized deck displayed depending on the current layout the app will leave a blank spot to format things. So you're right there's a display bug, but it seems to be gone now for you and also I'm pretty sure is not related to deleted decks, at least not a uniform/consistent issue.

Thanks Nate!! I cleared my cookies and cache and that seems gone! However, I'm pretty sure it's related to the delete deck, the blank space is exactly where I had the deleted deck (2051), the one you see (790) was put there before I took the screenshot. Another indicator is that when I did move my mouse over it the blank space the cursor doesn't change to the point hand but stayed the same (if that makes sense).

All duplicates cleaned up - removed the ones with the least amount of collection use. Thanks for the reporting.

I really wish people would be more careful and search before adding. The sad thing is the new system doesn't readily report who is adding so tracking down those using bad practices to help them is much more difficult. :(

Is there a way to lock down that permission like before?

Hi Guys,

One of the big things from the previous platform was eager participation from others who weren't with Contributor or Admin level. The new site was made to allow everyone to contribute. On the back end for Contributors and Admin they have access to a list of every deck being added by who and when. It's essentially a queue list. It worked really well for a while so much so that I thought the site was able to run itself. I took the training wheels off a bit too early. Right now an added deck is IMMEDIATE but the list is still created meaning if it is spam it will show up on the list and on that list we can see any spam/duplicates and delete them.

Unfortunately it either looks like it's not working or myself as an admin am accidentally allowing decks to go through that are duplicates. In terms of immediate action I'll be adding a "duplicate" flag button. But in terms of the larger question,
"Do we want new decks to only be added by Contributors or by Everybody?"

Let me know. The solution could literally be to go back to just Contributor-level access to upload decks. But realistically speaking I'm thinking that our current system works and we just need more hands on deck that could monitor duplicates. So with that being said, if you're interested please let me know! E-mail alex@seasonsplayingcards.com and I'll try to teach any volunteers the ropes of the backend. Also eventually you'll probably get super duper profiles and free decks from me lol.

Again thank you for understanding this growing process.

Based on what I've seen I think the permission should be scaled back to admins and contributors. It's great that a lot of people want to contribute but the fact that some people are not uploading quality image and doing the simple duplicate check or following the guidelines is concerning. I think if someone has showed a good track history then you and Nate can then promote the person to contributor status. Since only you and Nate have the permission to delete (maybe couple other) it's hard to ask them to check the site everyday to maintain that.

"Do we want new decks to only be added by Contributors or by Everybody?"

I think the answers is we want everyone to be a contributor, but not everyone can. I'm sure there are a lot of users that aren't UC members and don't check this board, for those people they wouldn't know the guidelines we follow to begin with. To be honest, there are too many people on the internet and a lot of them just don't care and you definitely can't trust "Everybody". I started out putting new decks I'd like added on the UC board and eventually Nate gave me contributor access based on my history just like the other contributors. I really think that should still be the model going forward. The people that really want to contribute can ask/find help on UC and eventually become a contributor.

Just my 2 cents...

All duplicates now cleaned up, with the exception of the Cherry and DMC since that needs more review before I can clean up.

I appreciate whomever updated decks with DUPLICATE title, that makes it easier for me and also helps users with them in their collection to properly remove it and add the right one. That is a good process - determine the one that is in the fewest collections, rename the title as duplicate, add a comment and perhaps most important remove the tuck images or even replace with this image to notify users. Ideally we would have a merge function or easy way to point users to the right deck, but for now this is good. I also updated the original posting with these details and will add to FAQ.

EDIT - I guess I was confused because v1 is apparently green and then v2 is black, but some seem to call v1 blue and also v2 blue??? Plus there is that limited deck (http://www.portfolio52.com/deck/3253/view) so I wasn't sure how many different variants or even a v3. I would agree that the deck name is 'Cherry Casino' and we can use (aka alt names) in title or description to help with searches.

OK, all duplicates have either been removed or properly marked with image, other than the Cherry ones. I think it's now clear there are 2 versions, plus a special edition, but I'm out of time for tonight.

I think the broken search is really causing problems with duplicates though, so hopefully that can be fixed. For example, one of the duplicates was for Archangels deck, but a search for Arch or Angels or even Arch Angels won't find it.

I wanted to make sure I'm not wrong before calling out a duplicate, but aren't these two the same deck?:

https://www.portfolio52.com/deck/5503/view" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I realize the pictures look a little different, but that's because of the way the foiling photographs vs. scans, but I'm pretty sure its the same deck (both have the release year of 2013).

based on description of the newer one and photos I was inclined to believe that it was actually a special edition, but 4.of.Clubs link convinced me it's most likely a duplicate too.
