Olympus Bicycle® Playing Cards Relaunch coming soon on KS

Unread post by badpete69 »

So not much info on the creator.. We know he is a math teacher. Is this a legit project? You could say they look a little like the Olympia project but easy pass as always.

There's actually quite a bit I like here, although I wish some of the courts had a different look (good queens though). What kills this for me is that I am cutting back on buying decks and especially the color palette that was used. If a more bold color set was used along with the good EB price I might have been persuaded. I hope it funds though because there's still some good stuff here.

EDIT - just looked at this again and it is totally the teal color that just ruins this. No, it annihilates it into extinction. It's just washed out, tired looking, kind of like it needs a bug hug. If it doesn't fund, there's 90% of your problem IMHO.

Side note, the AoS looks a LOT like the Curator one. Not saying it's a rip off because designs can be similar and perhaps never even saw Emmanuel's, but certainly the first thing I thought of. It is more bad ass though, I quite like it.

Olympus Bicycle® Playing Cards

Unread post by tanderle »

Hi guys. I just launched a Kickstarter playing cards project that you may want to check out. The deck is inspired by Greek Gods and Goddesses (I am also getting married to a Greek girl in 2 months!). I'm new to Kickstarter so this is my first project. I'm a math teacher but I have always had a love for graphic design and video editing. Let me know what you think.

Welcome to UC, Tom (great name btw!) :)

There was already a thread on your deck, so I merged the topics.

Oh man you don't like the color scheme :(
I guess it's either a love/hate thing with the colors. If it fails maybe I will relaunch with different colors.

tanderle - The court border looks odd here. Move the weapon and cover the border like you did on your JoS.

I see you are using USPCC. I like the way you are getting so close to the cut border, but that looks closer than Emmanuel's. I think USPCC will push back. It's more like half the space pass the dotted line in the template...

Thanks sprouts for your input. I think you are right about the helmet being a little too close. It won't be a hard fix if USPCC has an issue with it.

Hi Nate, Thank you for pointing this out. Yes, they are remarkably similar. I guess on some level, I should be flattered. On closer examination, it literally looks like he took the feather pattern on the Curator Ace of Spades and flipped it. Thanks again.

Emmanuel - It's all flattery. You are one of the big dogs and don't know it yet. Even Jackson is getting some.

It's to be expected. Your art is that good. So, are you going to the 52+J convention? I know you would do well there. They like transformational decks.

Olympus Playing Cards RELAUNCH [KS]

Unread post by tanderle »

Hi guys. I thank everyone on this forum for their suggestions and constructive criticism. I plan on relaunching my Olympus deck of cards soon. I changed the colors and went with LPCC. My new target goal will be around $8,500 instead of $15,000. Here is a first glimpse:

Likewise. If you're having this printed by LPCC, they can handle tighter borders.

But, that said... I do like it. I will likely pledge, if the price is reasonable.

(Side note: seems like prices are skyrocketing lately. Makes it easier to keep my number of bids down, but still... Sheesh.)

I'll look into making the borders a bit thinner before I launch and see if I like it.

I agree, the borders need to be thinner.

We were referring to the borders on the back of the cards, at least I was.

Yes, borders on the back look much better now that you thinned them down.

tanderie - This doesn't look right. Usually, you put the weapon to cover up the border like you did in your JoS. The four vertical lines hurt my eyes in your KoH...

I would also change the rounded corners of your card backs to match the angle of the rounded corners of the card itself. I like symmetry. :)

Sorry, The court borders and BackOfCard are two different animals, but they are somewhat related. Most of time the issue is the Color of the bleed borders Black vs White...

I'm not talking about the court borders. I'm talking about the white borders on the back of the card. I think the corners of the white borders should match the angle/arc/curvature of the corners on the physical card.
