Closer than you think, it's actually from the same creator, seems like he modified it and is ready for another go at it.

Thought people might like to see these images in context. I received a full-sized facsimile of the Codex Borbonicus a few years ago as a gift. This is an Aztec codex written by Aztec priests shortly before or after the Spanish conquest of Mexico. Aztec Codices are pictorial and there are many. The Borbonicus is an accordian book over 46 feet long when fully opened, with pages that are each about 15" square.

So far I've only found the second joker in this codex and it's very different in this interpretation. That figure is the god Huitzilopochtli and it's in the section about rituals and ceremonies:

I looked around online and it looks like these figures may have been derived from a codex more like the Codex Mendoza:

They got rid of the suit indicator in the courts. It seems a bit small even with the color streaming down. Like this example Spade with black. I like the way the streaming goes with the color of the suits The rank of card is a nice size. It's slightly enlarged.

I do miss the corner badges in the first one, but this new style works I guess. The indices are improved. She is going with a diagonal separation in the courts.
and I still like the fact the Jacks have weapons and I know what they are. I see some Tarot symbolism which is a plus...

I was a fan also of the previous design, in this version the back is better and I think that the goal is to be as close as possible to the original Aztec art.

So this failed a few days back:

Unfortunately we weren't able to reach the goal on KS. After 3 weeks I barely hit the 44% which wasn't enough to get the money. I will relaunched the project in a month with a smaller goal and dice for everyone.

I really wish these were Bicycle-branded! But I'll most likely be backing the re-relaunch anyway.
