Playing cards ARCANUM.
I'm working on a new playing cards Arkanum.
Expose them to the kickstarter in September.
Voice your opinion on my cards.
What should be changed?

Very interesting design. I would suggest making the courts bigger so they fill out the cards more. There is a lot of empty space.

I think there is something in that background - hard to see in this image though.
Do you have larger images of individual cards?

Those courts are fantastic! Can't have enough skeleton decks. Not too sold on the back though. While it's a lovely design, I feel it's missing a few splashes of solid gold or thicker gold lines to really bring out that black flower design in the center. But either way I'm really liking it as is. But I do agree on larger courts.

It's nice that you have custom indices, but I fear ppl won't know what the card is at a distance. You have 2 options you can make the indices bigger or put a big suit indicator on the top right of the card like the same size in your pips. You have the room. I agree your courts need to be bigger. In the queen you could flatten the feather and enlarge the queen. Your back is quite different and interesting, but is missing something. Where do you want the eye to go?

Re: Playing cards ARKANUM.
I agree somewhat about the indicies - a little biigger wouldnt hurt. You'll also be VERY luck to be able to get them printed that close to the edge (thin borders are cool and all but you can have too much of a good thing!)
The court designs could stand to take up a little more space - the queen's feathers could stray intot eh border areas - breacking teh borders that way is alwaays a nice touch.
Re the back - I love the edge to edge deisgn - but as sprouts says perhaps missing something. The faces have a nice subtle background pattern - perhaps incorporating that into the negative space on the back would work? (I prefer the 2nd 6 by the way - the central circle looks good on the courts as it gives depth to the design sittong over it - not so with the number cards.

Re: Playing cards ARCANUM.
Can i suggest you use simplified version of the pips just below the indices, it will be too small for the details to be seen anyways, so opting for a cleaner look might be better.
Also i really dont like the smaller middle pip, it looks more like a decoration rather than an actual pip, i dont think you will have a problem having it to be regular sized.

@vovkalex - You really need all the pips the same size. You might want to consider flipping the top pip around. So that on the top part of the card all the pips all right side up.
Your Joker is nice, but what do you read here when the card is flipped around?

Re: Playing cards ARCANUM.
@vovkalex - Your aces are fine. Everyone likes big godly Aces. Bigger the better. Jokers look good. What if the background went from grey medium lines to dark grey fine lines all the way to the center. Gradually of course. It would look like small void in the center. They will say some of that detail is not going to show up in the center. And you say "That is my intension". I would get a demo deck just to see how far you can go.

Re: Playing cards ARCANUM.
Looking very nice!
I don't really think you need to change from gold - Gold/Silver/Black is a nice combo - but as you may be hinting at has been done quite a lot (The last two Gamblers Warehouse decks for instance)
Can't hurt to try other colours out though;
Bone/Ivory maybe?

Re: Playing cards ARCANUM.
I love your designs, but I think having all the cards the same color would make it difficult to play with. Maybe keep the black cards gold but make the red cards red?

Or you could try making just the indices red. Or even just give them red outlines.wahl0108 wrote:I love your designs, but I think having all the cards the same color would make it difficult to play with. Maybe keep the black cards gold but make the red cards red?
