Good vs Bad packaging

Unread post by StanKindLee »

As someone new to the card deck fulfillment game, what makes for good packaging versus bad packaging for card decks? My previous KS fulfillment required the shipping of DVDs (in stiff mailers), art prints (in shipping tubes) and fine art canvas (sandwiched between cardboard, then bubble wrapped and put in box with paper padding to prevent movement during shipping). I was planning on shipping decks like a miniature versus of fine art items - so sandwiched between cardboard, then bubble wrapped, then put in shipping boxes. Uncut sheets would be sent out in shipping tubes. Is there anything else I should consider?

Hey stan ! Ok i think simply good packaging is one that gets the decks from creator to backer in its original condition. And what should be done to ensure that it does? The following methods (i have come across) have been tried. Do note that im speaking from an international standpoint, where the decks take a larger beating than the domestic ones.

1. Bubble envelope (depends on your luck, I personally wouldnt take the risk)
2. Bubble envelope + Bubble wrap (usually ends up ok, really depends on how much bubble wrap is used, typically 2 layers on the deck + 1 layer envelope should be sufficient, i still get dings and dents fairly often one a 1+1 layer, and that doesnt please me too much)
3. Bubble envelope + Cardboard wrapping around deck + Bubble Wrap (Best option, uusi did this, not a single damaged deck.)
4. Cardboard Box + Bubblewrap/other packing material (Never had a problem with this, no damaged decks ever.)
5. Stiff Envelope (DO NOT DO THIS, i got a a package once, and the cello was ripped clean off the deck)

Yea so you would simply have to deal with the straight-up cost vs post fulfillment cost (reshipment) and find a balance that suits you.

Option 3 and 4 work best from all the decks I've received internationally. It's one of those things you're better off paying for during fulfilment than to have to worry about when replacing damage decks. Replacing damage items would cost more in the end due to more packaging and shipping fees.
