Question regarding keeping a deck sealed

Hi there

I'm a new deck collector and I just have a quick question that I didn't find any other place for. I just received a Black Ghost(2nd edition) deck in the mail today which I was ecstatic about, the only thing is that it has an ugly white bar code note on the back of the plastic(see image). I was wondering if it's okay to remove the plastic and just keep the seal intact, or if the plastic should stay on as well?

(I tried embedding it, but couldn't seem to re-size it, sorry.)

I could try to peel it off the plastic, but I'm not sure if that would do any damage or not. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure removing it won't devalue the deck in any way, as long as the cello stays intact. But I'm pretty sure it won't come off easy, as you can't (or at least shouldn't) really use any heat to melt the glue. There might also be some useful info on it for dating etc in the future.

It's on the back though, so if you're displaying the deck you'd display the front anyway, right?

Yeah that's true, it's silly really, but it just messing with my slight obsession with keeping things neat and clean haha. But what you're saying is the plastic should stay on and that removing or leaving the sticker isn't going to devalue the deck?

Edit: Just noticed your location says Norway/UK...that's a bit creepy since that's exactly the case for me as well.

Pretty sure he meant removing the sticker and leaving the plastic (Cello) on. Actually nowadays its really plastic, but the term cello came from the past where actual cellophane is used to wrap up the cards. Been plastic for more than awhile. Also the sticker is pasted on by a third party, the decks dont come with a sticker normally.

Yeah that's what I thought. I figured the sticker was put on by a third party, I'm guessing it's Amazon meddling as I bought it from them. I'm just not sure I want to attempt to take the sticker off, I feel like it could potentially damage the cello.

Well either way, i doubt you can get full value out from this deck if you want to keep the sticker on as well.

But first things first, what do you plan to do w the deck ? Keeping it for your own display ? Keeping it for resale ?

I'm planning on keeping it for myself, but at the same time I like things to remain in pristine condition. I don't plan on selling any decks, but I like it all to be perfect...might have to get one from somewhere else and hopefully get one without the sticker on it.

Edit: Do you think carefully using steam to get it off would work?

You could try a product called UN-DU. It's a scrapbooking adhesive remover so it is acid free. I've used it on books jackets and it works well. I have not tried it on card plastic but it might be worth the few bucks to try it. You should be able to find it at any craft store or online.

I finally managed to get the sticker and all the glue off without damaging the cello using a combination of steam, vinegar, water and white spirit all applied very carefully. Here's a picture of the "finished product": http://imgur.com/a/XX6Uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I can't tell that there was a sticker there and it doesn't smell of vinegar or white spirit either thankfully.

Grumposaur - I think your OCD but I think we all are some aspects. I was going to suggest taking the sticker off as much as possible and use Goo-Gone for any glue residue. I know it does not affect plastic.
