My first experience of card creation.
Posted: Wed Jan 01, 2025 12:05 am
I created a deck of 78 cards intended for French tarot players, whose theme is inspired by the popular imagination of the medieval era. I hope to convince amateurs in France to participate in this project and also to attract the clientele of card players among young people interested in the medieval era in both France and America.
This ancient game, which originated in 16th century France, can accommodate 4 to 5 players. The 4-player version pits players against each other (the one seen in tournaments in France); the 5-player version is the most user-friendly, because you play with initially unknown partners who will be revealed during the game! By the way, these cards could also be used for a classic game like poker by removing the trumps and knights (the cards with the letter C).
Not being an illustrator but rather a graphic designer, I needed help to express my vision of such a card game and overcome my manual handicap in drawing... The arrival of the artificial intelligence application Midjourney would allow me to begin creating the basic images that I imagined for this project that was close to my heart.
To achieve this, however, I had to develop my proper scripts with detailed and complex scenarios so that this application could compose the very many images that I wanted; depending on the subject, the angle of view, the light and the scene envisaged in the composition of the image.
Once the images were collected, they were processed (brightness, contrast and colors adjustment) and cropped in an editing software to match the dimensions of a classic tarot deck.
This medieval tarot project is offered in two versions. A basic version (Standard) and an exclusive premium version (Deluxe).
I am preparing with the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com a campaign that will begin on January 15, 2025 and will last 60 days. It will be followed, if the objective is reached, by the production of the decks of all contributors at the end of April, for delivery at the end of May-beginning of June. With your support, this medieval tarot deck will become a reality for many.
