Hi all,
I have a Kickstarter project going for cards and one of my backers told me about this group. After looking around I can see that this forum is going to be a lot of fun and very informative.
I'm a Graphic Designer by trade but I really do more illustrations and unusual creations surrounding...well...the unusual! I know a lot of people are freaked out by Ouija boards but I love them, collect them and create them. With that said..cards are a whole other deal. I've been collecting antique and vintage fortune telling cards, tarot cards and a load of other fortune telling devices for about 2 decades and have had an itch to create my own decks for quite some time.
I developed a special interest in fortune telling with a standard deck of playing cards after getting my hands on some antique decks from the turn of the last century that were produced by The United States Playing Card Company (USPC). Specifically The Nile, The Spinx and The Revelations decks. I love them because they are antiques but they aren't very pretty. Nothing very visually pleasing about these decks at all. I've had the fever to re-create them and USPC is a must.
I have a little bit of an interest in magic as well. My dad introduced me to Penn and Teller when I was little and I was always intrigued by them as well as other illusionists. It wasn't until recently that I discovered what a stripper deck is. "Wow...sooo THAT's how they do that!" and "I want to learn more" were my first thoughts. I've been trolling youtube and have learned a lot but I know there is more to it.
