For those who appreciate the classic styling, closely observed historical accuracies and vintage vibes there is still time to get behind this project and be part of a last minute revival! The current campaign is here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ah ... ying-cards

Starting with a blank canvas and drawn entirely from scratch with no stock elements; printed to the highest standards by Legends PCC on Viper Finish stock. This project is a blood, sweat 'n tears love letter to the golden age of playing cards made entirely by me. I have included a few photos below.

What have you got to lose? Now's the time to be part of a memorable Kickstarter miracle and get a smoking old school collectible deck of cards to boot!

Thanks for stopping by :D

Looks nice. I'm no longer collecting much in the way of standard-like faces, but if I were, this would likely clear the hurdle if the pricing were right. Best of success to you!

I really wanted to pledge but shipping is insane. Guess they really are "imported" I hope these fund so I can pick them up at a 3rd party someday.

Yeah, between the relatively high goal and the extremely high shipping, I think this campaign may need retooling to be successful - I backed for a deck regardless but shipping sure gave me pause

*FEEDBACK WANTED - PLS READ ON*

I see a common theme emerging here :)

Firstly, thank you for your positive replies, you clearly like the deck and that means a lot to me, I put a lot into it and I know this forum gives honest opinions so that's good. And HSBC thank you for pledging :D

This is my first Kickstarter project however and I am aware of just how much there is to be familiar with and accomplish across so many different areas and disciplines in order to run a successful campaign. When I calculated the costs, both overall funding goal and shipping costs, I used tools such as online parcel price calculation from multiple sites and checking what other UK vendors who sell playing cards charge for shipping various size parcels to different destinations around the world. I also factored in the difference in quality and reliability between the cheapest "economy" shipping options and slightly more costly standard type options. I came up with costs that I thought were accurate and fair, but if a lot of people are in disagreement I want to hear about it and see what I can do. Ultimately I am not in a position to lose money on the project and need to cover all costs, but I am not trying to make any profit from P&P.

The feedback I get from this forum is important to me and I respect it. When you have pledged for UK-based playing card projects on Kickstarter recently, what sort of shipping costs have you paid that seemed like a fair price? I would rather do what I can now to get everyone happy with the project and watch it succeed than have potential backers that are holding off for various reasons but who otherwise like the deck and want to pledge.

Just for reference as I am unsure if people in the US are able to see the Royal Mail Delivery Calculator:
Small parcel up to 750g (6 decks) from the UK to Mainland US is £9.05 for Economy and £17.80 for Standard.
Small parcel up to 250g (1 deck) from the UK to Mainland US is £5.40 for Economy and £9.40 for Standard.
These prices do not include the packaging and obvs need to be converted up into USD. I didn't feel comfortable posting Economy as I'd like to know the decks reach backers safely. I also plan on making sure the decks are packaged well so that if the parcels receive a beating during transport that the product will arrive undamaged.

Thanks again and I look forward to your feedback.

Hi everyone. Just to let you know, the project will be cancelled in the next couple of days but will be re-launching shortly with a lower overall funding goal and better shipping costs for our international brothers and sisters - still the same premium product on Viper stock by Legends and all the same artwork.

For anyone who is interested please visit our Backerkit landing page and sign up for email notifications - backerkit.com/call_to_action/5464e509-f ... 8b/landing (I make a 100% no spam promise)

We will be back soon with a re-launch but in the meantime won't be adding to this thread anymore.

Hope you are all keeping well :)

use whatever adjectives one likes but custom courts made to look standard may as well be standard in my book which makes them a pass.

As solid as I think these are, I feel confident in saying they don't match the zeitgeist. Folks rarely appreciated a classic deck nowadays. It's still a solid success imho.

My definiton of fully custom is exactly that. The pips are custom, the font index is custom and the courts themselves are completely unique. Sorry, but that's not what I'm seeing here, these really feel more semi-custom and barely even that for me.

I like these and backed them. I absolutely love stuff like the old Dougherty and Hart decks, and this delivers that antique style really well.

I'm someone who opens & uses my decks, so I always prefer a more classic/traditional look to the faces. Better for magic tricks and card games.

In my book, custom is custom even if the chosen style is one that's familiar. But I'm also totally down with semi-custom decks that only bring a Back, Tuck, Ace, and Joker to the table.

For me, back design is the most important element. If I love the back design, that'll get me 90% of the way there.

I understand that people who collect only for art's sake and who don't necessarily open or use their decks want each deck they buy to be more uniquely styled.

I also think it's important that we all remember that no deck is a "one size fits all" offering. Just because we aren't the target audience for a specific deck doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of other people who might love a deck for the exact same reason that we dislike a deck.

I really like these, love the traditional look. I backed them and really hope they get funded.

Consider adding a link to the new KS to the first post? I was confused at first when I clicked the link and saw the campaign had been cancelled.

Not quite sure how to manage that without mucking with the history of the project in the thread - it’s something that happens fairly often... I’ll chat with the other mods about it and see if anyone has a workable idea

Something transparent along the lines of "EDIT by GandalfPC: Adding new KS link to the top of the original post."

That's sort of just how old-school forums like this work, with all the newest info later in the thread, but you do have a valid point for sure! Any other users with thoughts on this, your comments are welcome :D
