The Groundskeeper by Wyrmwood (Produced by the Gentleman Wake, ill. Dan Greta)

Unread post by TheGentlemanWake »

I'm SUPER excited to finally and officially announce my collaboration with Wyrmwood Gaming on an amazing poker set with a GORGEOUS deck being designed by Dan Greta (T11's Hudson, T11's Tycoon playing cards). The Groundskeeper is still being worked on, and will likely be a Wyrmwood Kickstarter campaign in 2nd quarter 2023. To follow the project along and see me make a cameo on Wyrmwood's channel!

The deck's will be competitively priced and available separately. The poker set with chips and wooden box? Might be expensive.

Very exciting! I heard you mention in the video there would be 3 decks, are they all different designs or just color changes? Also, any idea when we might be able to see some deck pictures? Looking forward to seeing more!

Three editions of one design. There may be some differences to the artwork. Which is looking amazing. I’ll post pictures as soon as I can

Thanks for sharing this here. Oh, the dissing on the Dynastinae Tempest deck. (Ugly? They didn't really take time to look through it.... :( :D ) Loved their faces when you told them how much it costs!

It's a very appropriate collaboration with the TGW brand. Really establishes what it's about and the image. I finally get what you're doing with the TGW branding. Great to see you branching out from just playing cards.

Just a tease at the brilliant artwork from Dan Gretta... that's a keyhole opening on the outer tuck sleeve revealing a gorgeous full color tuck box underneath.

Gorgeous artwork. Really looking forward to seeing another Dan Gretta deck after so long. Will follow with interest.

Glad to hear that the deck will be available separately.

You will have to see the inner tuck. Which I’m not sure (Bobby )from wyrmwood) wants to show. ;)

I am super proud of this deck, just as much as if it were a TGW branded deck. I will have the creative direction credit, but it is a Wyrmwood deck. Anyway, the inner tuck case will be a source of entertainment for quite some time. So much hidden in plain sight on it.

Some more previews. We went for a very classic design for gameplay but still wanted a custom feel. These are all WIP.

I like the integration of wood grain into the QoH pips. I am surprised they didn't do that for all of the pips. Even so, a nice touch.

As much as I love the frog joker - I'm jumping outta this. The courts are too reminescent of other decks for me.

I am not feeling the courts shown. Hard to say why but they just do not wow me. I will likely still be in for some but won't go crazy like I do sometimes.

No. The design is actually intended to feel very standard. While still being custom. The idea for this was that this deck is intended to by wyrmwood’s flagship deck. One that will be akin to riderbwcks for bicycle. The cards will have metallic Pantones and one edition will feature cold foil. There are theee editions overall. A red and blue standard pair and a limited Luxury edition which may or may not be a KS exclusive. Still being determined.

That said I urge anyone drawing conclusions to do so with trepidation because the final product will be a definite improvement over what’s shown here. Especially the tuck boxes. We are working on prototypes now.

I don't think anyone doubts the tuck will be as fancy as possible (too much emphasis on tucks and twenty photos of them on all promo material seems to be the thing for luxury decks) it's the courts that feel underwhelming here. The Queen shown is okay, the hand position and the way the body mirrors looks good, but all the other courts look weird. The way the body stretches out horizontally makes them all feel like bad photoshop layering and the hands look odd because of it, imo.

I think the courts are great for what they're aiming for: customized classic courts. The issue I have with them is the negative space all around them. I would like to see some subtle pattern in the background to give it more texture and a sense of completeness.

I really like the crowns/headwear on the courts and I get a sort of WhIspering Imps vibe overall, interested to see more.
