5 different versions, run of 52 each. It appears to be highly unconventional according to Alex and not for everyone. We'll have pictures tomorrow to help people with deciding if this appeals to them.

I'm just going to put this out there: I'm baffled by this release. Why would he release something so soon after his signature annual release? My budget is so out of whack this month that I had to call in a few favours to get this year's NPCCD set and there is no way I'm double-dipping on that.

It would appear that he did these while “in limbo” as a personal outlet…

That's meta; it already lets me feel the emotion of boredom.

$65 each
LIMBO was designed to create an unexpected loss of autonomy for the holder and was through this lens that the project was created. This deck is the first piece from a personal series designed to help process a certain period of life.

To facilitate this design, the goal was to remove points of definition to unground the art and create a sense of fog throughout. To achieve this effect nearly all of the project was created with photography and custom filters rather than digital manipulation.

Limbo revolves around two different states and one’s inability to transverse either. The focus then was not about the cards and what they held, but the voided value from the nothingness between. This concept is more prevalent once fanned, showing state 1 fanned one direction, and state 2 fanned the other direction. But as a user, we do not get this privilege to see the images in full and are forced to be stuck trapped between states.

This attention on the void between is applied through the whole deck and while still playable, forces a sense of frustration and desire for change. The courts are photographed and overlaid to visualize this trapped feeling. The Jokers mock the concept by being the only cards that would work with the Limbo Layout but are placed in normal format.

The only space where Limbo is broken is on the back design where the typography breaks through the fog. It is an inching indication that change might be possible, providing a glimpse of optimism if one looks hard enough.

The goal for making this deck was to gain peace with a resisting situation. The goal for eventually deciding to offer this deck to the public was to see if it might resonate with those of similar situation and let them know this isn’t forever.

Limbo is represented across the tucks in flux with drifting typography in a space that changes the format and design of each tuck with it. Each tuck variation is individually numbered out of 52. All 260 decks are the Limbo design. The deck will be under 1 sku.

The quantity was a small batch because I wasn't sure how acceptable the topic would be received given that it is not in the comfortable wheelhouse of the norm. This said, if people are okay with it, I may dust off the others in the series next year and test out a time based model for people (with a longer lead time) if that is a compromise that works.

Available Sunday 12pm CDT. Ships late November.

Cards look a lil whack, like registration issues or something. But i'm not an artist, just my opinion.

Lightning round…

I admire and respect Alex for all that he does. With that said, I'll be holding myself accountable to pass on this release as I've invested much into Nazo Nazo & NPCCD, and need to have some restraint somewhere.

That black limbo with "fireworks" and the limbo tuck that looks like a rib cage are my favorites of the bunch. That gold Seasons logo is a nice touch too <3 Cool concept and I cannot knock Alex one bit for this as he did explicitly state these are an attempt at a concept that were conveyed through the medium of playing cards. An artist expresses, and this is his medium. For that, a job well done.

By the way, they are all the same SKU so if you plan on buying a set, you have to place an order of 5 decks at $65 each and while it's likely you will get one of each tuck, there are no guarantees. Alex will do his best. If I were in his shoes, I'd say the same thing to avoid any backlash after the fact if he cannot provide someone with a full set.

Tucks and concepts are Seasons forte. Nice work and the explanation of Alex is beautiful. Tip to the head.
However when one promises to deliver something boundry pushing... you're left with a gaff deck 🤷🏿‍♀️.

Well under a minute. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to bail from this hobby. I don't have the time to compete against bots.

Alex updated the page:

Note: There was a bot that created all the orders. I am fixing this and canceling all those orders and will release the stock at 12:20pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sold out in about 30 seconds. Did not get any. I was there reloading and got in at the very beginning, put 2 in my cart, tried to check out, and it said sold out. Less than 30 seconds. Ridiculous. I guess I am glad I saved the money but I very much dislike these sort of things.
