Cool theme - why the high goal? Almost 20K.

I can never get into un-colored court cards.

I really like the look of this deck, but it does seem like a high goal for an unbranded deck.

If it's done nice enough. I'm fine with it.

Look is interesting, but it's not a good end date. That's going up against Fed 52 (Jul 25), Empire (Jul 18), and Calaveras (Jul 22).

Great, another deck with good artwork and stupidly high international shipping...

Magik, you just got to move to the states mate to support your addiction

From the creator:
For now I'm keeping the court cards as black and white. I am thinking about adding color to them if I can reach a stretch goal, which will allow me more time to color in time for printing. Thanks!

Pretty nice design but not a fan of the back. my only concern is the name. If Disney finds this out then they'll be some copyright issues.

Disney owns "Alice OF Wonderland?"

Becuase Lewis Carroll's books, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are public domain, as are the original Tenniel illustrations. The books are over 100 years old, and the original stories are out of copyright, this is why there are literally thousands of versions of children's books, plays, etc. that you can find based on it.

Much better

This is a short update to all my backers. I added color to the Queen of Hearts to see how she would look, and I kept the colors to light, brownish tones to reflect a vintage look. If you like this, please leave me a comment so I can pursue the rest of the cards and make a public update on coloring all of the face cards. Color also helps to keep the pip icons to a rich red, with the Spades and Clubs pips getting a dark vintage brown instead of black.

Personally I think it looks better with color.

I like it, but I also think they have a certain charm without color too.

I think he's going to color them and then run a limited set of "sketch decks"

hi-res: http://aliceofwonderland.com/the-kingdo ... ts-royals/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now that I have the King, Queen, and Jack of Hearts all done in vintage colors (while preserving the black and white versions), I can finally show you all 3 of these face cards in the Hearts suit together! This project is coming along, and I can't wait to design the other 3 kingdoms in my deck!

The next face cards I am designing will be the Kingdom of Spades Royals!

I've actually been in a back and forth with Juan over the past couple of days concerning the direction of the deck - not only is he really passionate about making this deck the best he can from his ability, I don't think we're done seeing some deck changes that will ultimately really make the deck stand out. I'm not going to blow lids off anything, it's not my place, but I will say he does have some other plans and ideas that might come up to really make the cards pop in terms of design.

At first, I was like "engh, another AIW deck - thematic decks feel over done to me, irrespective of quality art." (zombies, spiders, cthulu, geometric designs, etc... *shrug*). Though it is a thematic deck, I believe it's a well thought out deck that has some deeper meaning in terms of his direction and I have an appreciation for the stepped process in which he's revealing its creation. It (to me) shows gears are turning and there's potential for something that wasn't originally perceived. I now fully support that deck - especially the colored version.

I really wanted the bike branding, but didn't say anything because it seems most of his fans like the tuck the way it is

The predicted "Sketch" decks are now available for addon (or mix and match if you have a multiple deck pledge) - though now the two versions will be marketed as 'Silver' and 'Gold' editions, and will feature some metallic in highlights.

This deck is going to need some more exposure if he's ever going to hit his goal

Talked to Juan and seems that he is trying to find some way to reduce the international shipping cost by 20%!!! Don't know if he'll be able to do so, but I really hope he does!

Oh boy. My wallet's gonna hate me a lot if this comes true.

How come some decks require so much yet some so little? Is it based on how many are being printed? I hate to be pessimistic but having 7 days left and $ 8500+ behind the nearly $20,000 goal requires nothing short of a miracle. Such a shame. Perhaps next time around it can be a more limited release and include branded decks. I personally prefer branded. Are branded less costly than unbranded or is it the other way around?

More experienced users will correct me if i am wrong, but i believe it does cost extra to add the "bicycle" branding. However, it seems that a lot of collectors won't buy them unless they are branded, so you may get more backers with a branded deck, and that may make up for the added cost. Of course, if your deck isn't good enough to begin with, branding won't make the difference.

Interesting. I would have assumed it'd be cheaper. But I guess USPCC is such a powerful and trusted brand that having its name on a product benefits the artist more than it benefits them.

Unfortunately not - USPCC charges extra (and have a whole pile of restrictions) to have a Bicycle logo on the deck. As mentioned that the 'trusted' brand helps sell the decks, and USPCC is happy to take some commission :-)

The thing about this campaign is that it's actually for 2 decks, hence the cost is .... approximately twice as much.

Troubled times for this project - apparently USPCC is balking at printing it due to copyright issues, so it's either a) De-"Alice" the art or b) print with Cartamundi.

Wow. This is why people needs to get their designs approved BEFORE launching a kickstarter project!

If those really are the only options, my vote would go for Cartamundi as the artwork was the primary reason I backed it. BUT, in either case I expect a partial refund since we are not getting what we initially paid for.

As someone on KS pointed out, what makes this raise copyright issue flags that the "White Rabbit" deck managed to avoid?

Not happy about this. Especially since it looks like he's going to go with Cartamundi. That is not what I agreed to.

It's always possible that the USPCC got into trouble *after* White Rabbit was printed, I suppose.

I know nothing about Cartamundi cards - are they really that bad?

Depends on who you ask, I guess. They've got nothing on USPCC though, that much is certain.
