CAPTCHA

I got a new phone and could not remember my password. I tried several times before I finally recalled it. However, when I try to login it says I exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts and I have to pass the CAPTCHA test but it never shows the test so I am unable to login in. I have tried this also on Chrome on my laptop. I am still logged in on Firefox on my laptop so I can make this post. Why does the site not present the CAPTCHA test?

Haven't heard from any of the other mods, so I assume they don't know how to fix this either

Googling the issue, it seems the most common fixes are to clear cache and cookies of the browser, and also update the browser if it's not the latest version.

(I checked in the settings to see if I could just temporarily deactivate Captcha, but it doesn't seem to be an option. Would likely have to uninstall the plugin, and that's more than what I'm comfortable messing around with...)

Ok, thanks for looking into it. I get the CAPTCHA message on every browser and OS whether on the phone or my laptop when I logoff and try to log back on. So it seems to be a site specific setting versus something in the browser or phone/laptop.

I found this on the internet

It says if the setting is set to 0 it does not trigger for distinct user accounts. Maybe this could be done for my account at least temporarily? Or maybe increasing the number of attempts temporarily will allow me to login without getting the CAPTCHA message.

Thanks for the research, brownsl. I set that value to zero. Let's see how things go now. Let us know if that solves your problem, and we'll keep an eye out for whether it causes us any problems to leave it set to zero.

That did work! Thank you to you and Tom for your help!!

I think since I was able to log on successfully you may be able to set the value back to its original value, if you prefer. I will know in the future not to be in a rush and try several different passwords and to get my password manager set up first on any new device.

Thanks again!
