Perhaps you have heard, but its news to me - from his latest kickstarter update:

“Anyways, some of you may have heard, but the next project will be a new version of the Hana Playing Cards. It will feature new back designs and new colors while retaining the aesthetics of the series. The new version of the Hana Playing Cards will include new editions of the beautiful kimono signature sets I'm still incredibly proud of.”

I’ve recently developed a knack for paying a bunch for decks on my wishlist (like Hana) mere days before a new version of it is announced.

But not this time! I’m sure v2 will be distinct from the original but I imagine it will slake my thirst. Also, nice to be able give my money to the creator instead of the aftermarket.

Id like to ask how much a set of normal hana cards is worth and I am guessing that this thread might be appropriate. If I am wrong please forgive me.

Pretty sure I paid 65 or 70 each last year or thereabouts - but the last set to sell on ebay went for 250 for the pair - so somewhere between 75 and 125 each seems a decent approximation

Might have paid less for the blues back then (as low as 50?) really hard to remember…. Also might have been two years ago (covid lockdowns really screwed with my internal calendar)

Doing a v2 of Anubis and Osiris worked very well for Steve, and that project was one of the top Kickstarter playing projects of all time.

I imagine that a Hana V2 will also be well received.

Steve Minty is another on he list of playing card designers that have dropped off the earth. If I recall right, there's still some backers of his last project that never got their rewards.

That is too bad. I thought he was one of the reputable ones. Disappointing that he and Alex have both absconded people's money.

People aren't ok with it. If you are leaning towards the creators who have disappeared as being ok, then i guess we won't know until they decide to reappear.

Steve Minty is very much around. If you go to the "tagged posts" tab on his Instagram profile, people tag him at conventions. As to his responsiveness and communication to anyone in the playing card realm, that seems to be zilch. It's odd to completely cut off communication in that way, and makes me wonder if something particular happened.

I'm quite glad it was bloated for a while. At least that way I actually learned of it. Though I can see some shrinking being healthy. That said, I don't think it explains actual breakdowns in communication much. Every creator who's currently caught up in some lack of fulfillment-scandal could explain their situation. While probably being harder it would at least be a clean cut.
