hi,

everyone I just seen the release of 3 diffrent monte carlo deck standards $12, LTD $25, gilded $250. I guess my question is is it worth it to buy the gilded for that high ? both playing cards decks . com have it and 52kards. I believe print run for gilded is 144 and LTD 2500

If you want it that bad, it's worth it. I like the occasional gilded, and I like the cherry casinos with the metallic ink-backs, but I don't like their gildeds for the typically outrageous asking prices, so I never pick them up. Your proverbial mileage may vary.

I do think it's a bit high on the price looks great though but I do like the feel of the cherry casinos if I do purchase it be the first gilded but I'd have to look at being able to resale it and atleast get my money back if I needed to ever sell

Certainly a gamble - I don't think I would be comfortable saying you could get your money back in a hurry (if at all) - might take many months to resell, perhaps years - you never know, they could go up in value - the heart wants what it wants...

If you can't afford to lose money on them you may be better off putting the money elsewhere - plenty of decks and other items around for that price.

An easy pass for me, as where the $75 limited edition cherry casinos - great cards in their standard format, and I have a bunch - handle great, super long lasting - and I love the colors - a fan to the end, but the limited editions leave me flat at those price points.

They did make 500 decks each at the $75 price point for the house decks, and they haven't sold out yet - been a while now unless the ones I saw were yet another color way release of them...

I do like the black and gold and will likely pick up a few standard decks :)

Looking at the completed items on ebay, other than a few V1 and V2 decks I am seeing that the highest prices paid are for the house decks and are not impressive - one went for $75, the next two for less than that:

I think it's one heck of a rip off and there's a lot of people annoyed by it, that's x10 the price just to gild it? There's no say the cost to make that is any where near 250

Honestly I was glad someone had already posted here about the deck and I was able to try to add a helpful response - I had actually popped in just after seeing the deck and had intended to do a “most outrageous price yet” type of post :)

It was nice to be restrained for a moment, but frankly feels even nicer to hear you saying what I was thinking

A retailers take:

When I first saw these last week I thought the price for the limited and especially the gilded was high. But Murphys has enough info about the demand of the market to set the price. They are a business and have a huge overhead and profit is the name of the game. I myself will not add these to my collection, but to some customers price is not a concern and both the limited and gilded have sold very well. The gilded could be sold out very soon because of the limited quantity, and possibly demand huge amounts later on ebay. I have noticed many new customers late to the game trying to get in on what they missed on the secondary market.

On a side note I set PCD produced decks to be very affordable to both be used and collected.

This is a nice release. Looking forward to mail day. Wish I would have picked up a few more limiteds, but 2x regular deck price for a seal with a number.

Better than the typical Cherry release from PIP, but still leaves a lot to be desired. Gilded price is testing the top of the market. Likiteds should be included in each brick, but I’m happy they exist. Definitely needed something between the standard decks and house decks.

IMHO, if one is charging $250 for a gilded deck, it had better be real 24k gold gilding and done similar to what Uusi does with their gilded decks!

Even their latest Pagan deck kickstarter gilded deck tier was only $200!

$250 for a blinged out ultra limited Lotrek Deck with all the bells and whistles is even a stretch. $250 for a Cherry deck? GTFO

After popping a pair of decks into my cart at penguin for the standard gold and black version I gave the color scheme a second thought and popped them back out - I already have the black and red, and frankly think they are nicer. Your opinion may vary…

I mean if Penguin and PCD can do limited gilded decks for like 10 times less than yeah their price is a ripoff and a cash grab.

If you have that much money and willing to pay, then go ahead
For me, I just skip it. Those 250$ could have been for decks that are more luxurious than a standard design deck with fancy gilding

This is one example of how gilding decks can be a bad thing: when gilding decks are means to get easy money for hardcore collectors

Let's do the math. 144 x $250 = $36,000.

The $75 house decks were bad enough, but this is just nuts. It makes it only affordable for the wealthy/elite, and it is a money grab. Both are bad. Still, I guess the market seems to be supporting it.

But I do like the basic Monte Carlo Black and Gold deck that is priced at $12. I have a copy of it already, and wrote up my detailed impressions in another thread here:

This is the part that gets me, is that I saw people posting on IG who were excited to be getting it so you know it sold out despite the fact

Some ppl have more $ than sense. When you can get a Lotrek, early Fontaine/Virt for less than that, can't help but think of that famous quote (turns out NOT said by Barnum.)

Your point is that people with a lot of money just buy no matter how ridicoulous the price is and or how the price just plainly bonkers?

I would say many buy into the hype and scarcity trap. 144 only, $250. Exclusive! Some could be Cherry Casino completist with the another category being the flipper. Buy and sell with high mark up. (Resellers are not included as they cater to the 3 categories as well)

If buyer is in the 1st category, they could be unaware of the wider market and what one could get for rarer decks at that price point. Or they are sucked into the hype/scarcity trap.

According to the ad copy, James Bond uses them, so I imagine he is buying most of the decks

I wonder if there is such difference between Flippers and Scalpers

If James Bond did buy them, hope to see them in "No Time to Die"

Seems like some collectors are still capable of reason. Can't believe there're actually people out there who paid the original asking price of - what was it again? $70? Damn... $75 even.

Some of those stock numbers it's scraping seem inaccurate and I let Henry know. Multiple items showing 146 remaining for some reason.

This is a particularly odd deck in terms of pricing. Seems like they're playing the long game.

Crazy right?…. If that House deck is gilded, perhaps it can be justified. But NOOOOOOO
It is priced $75 because they can

Luckily, Monte Carlo is the “last” one… unless they decide to break their promise (like the Buck Twins)
