I'm Tesh, the admin of the art, gaming and photography blog, TIsh Tosh Tesh. I've been up to some deck design of late, and thought I should investigate various forums. I've stumbled across a wealth of information here, so I figured I'd "delurk" and say hello. Of course, I'd also like a few more eyeballs on my designs, to make sure I'm not doing anything egregiously wrong (without at least having a good reason to, anyway). Price or Prestige

...it's a bit on the "old news" side at this point, being almost a week old, but I'd still appreciate whatever time you might have to spare and your feedback. I've been an artist for a couple of decades now, but this is my first foray into the "standard playing card" design field. It's more of an experiment than anything else, just a project I started because it interested me.

Thank you both! I've always liked card games, and I've been an artist for a long time, but I've mostly focused on games like Magic the Gathering, Rage and Rook. There's a lot here to see. It's been fun, poking around the forums, seeing the wide variety of "standard" playing cards.

Added: Oh, and I know full well that the proper popular response to anything even vaguely steampunky is "oh, that's so early 2012". This deck design is something I was doing for family and friends, and someone challenged me to take it to Kickstarter and see what happens. If people like it despite the inherent unhipness of the timing, hey, great! If it just winds up lounging about on TheGameCrafter.com in the end with its alpha version instead, well, "them's the breaks", right?

If I were to really do a hardcore targeting of the playing card market and calculate something to appeal to the cutting edge, it would be a different project. Maybe that's for another day.

Welcome! Steampunk may be a "last year" thing, but yours is definitely not among the worst I've seen. Designs can be good and popular regardless of the theme.

Just make sure that if you actually do put it on kickstarter, don't do it just to "see what happens". This is what most new project starters do wrong, where they don't have any details planned out before they start collecting money from people. There's plenty of competent people on this forum that would gladly help you out with this prior to launch, so make sure to use their passed on knowledge for all it's worth

*chuckle* Aye, that was the proposition. I've since spent more time studying Kickstarter, tax codes, shipping and such than I spent on the art for the cards. It was a flippant proposal to start with, but I do my homework.

I hesitatingly call this steampunk anyway, since it's mostly just gears, rust and historical figures. It's more of a kindred spirit rather than proper steampunk.
