I don't do forums much, but I found this one through the kickstarter for the UC deck and have since been checking in just about daily since, so I figured I'd say hi. I'm not into magic (zero skill lol), just like to play cards when I get the chance and I think I'll probably get into collecting decks now. Seems to be a lot of information and knowledgeable people on this site and it's been fun reading through some of the threads. Guess that's about it for me. :)

Welcome, Charlie!

I find decks to be more justifiable than many other collectibles. What the hell can you actually do with stamps or old coins anyway? :D

Funny you mentioned those two things, I have them both lol, although I haven't seen the stamp book since I was 12 or 13 probably. The coins are fun to show kids, especially since I have a good bit of non-US coins.

Quick question, what exactly do you guys mean when you talk about 'reveals'? I've figured out what most of the card terms mean, pips, one-way vs. two-way backs, gaffs, etc., but I am not quite sure what this one means. Is it just a picture on the tuck box of one of the cards, or something else?

When talking about a box (that's what she said), a reveal is usually the name of a specific card cleverly "hidden" (e.g. within the bar code) on the box, so that you can force that card and "reveal" it by, say, having someone who held on to the box for the entire trick take a look at the box and see if the chosen card has been "revealed". A reveal is also often found on one of the jokers of custom decks, so that you can switch the normal joker for the "reveal joker" to reveal the chosen card that way.

I think that a "reveal" is also a generic term used for techniques used to produce a selected card, but I may be thinking of something else here.

Thanks for the answer Tom. I think I'd probably understand a bit better if I was more into magic, but I think I get the basic concept. :)
