Runaway W orld by anyone worldwide x B.Thom Stevenson

Unread post by Harvonsgard »

Not sure if that will be the final title of what appears to be the next anyone deck. Cards are kinda move on nothing to see here though so, yah... move on...

EDIT: I removed the pictures to avoid confusion.

I'm following anyone on instagram but don't read comments or stuff so, me dunno what the vibe about these is. Some previous releases didn't sell out instantly (blue logos, yellow and red checkerboards). People seem to forget that.
I'm a big fan of Headlong into Eternity, mostly due to the back design though. Those courts are more abstract and random as the first installment. I doubt that these will be gone in minutes. I could be wrong of course though.

The kerning on that tuck has me super triggered. The "orld" is running away from "W"

Also, the "Human Needs" text reminds me of Windows 94 Word Art. If anyone remembers that...

Only glimpses and flashes of the cards in the latest teaser from anyone. It seems to be different courts though than the cards that have been teased a while ago.

Oh, thanks for the heads-up, Capt. Obvious  . Maybe because this brand basically prints de facto flags and patterns with less than 20% custom that only half the cardist community give af, no one else. (Anyone? Like has anyone gave af? )

Never cease to diss people when you can, smh. Keep it up, here's a ribbon for you.

Lel... you're too funny when you've being caught doing the stuff you criticise on others.
The TM really gets to your head as it seems?
The silence towards me suits you way, way better than being factually wrong so often or your memes - they really aren't your forte.

Like I said before the topic was derailed, so what is left of the value of A1WW for people anyways?
Especially since Noel Heath dropped cardistry and head to magic?

I like the aesthetics of this deck - even the bad kerning of "World" is part of the 90s vibe, fonts and computers back then weren't as typographically advanced as they are now. That said the cards in the new video do indeed look different and are IMO not nearly as good :(

But are you asking about all their other decks? Split is totally awful, the flags are boring, the recolors get old very fast with such basic designs. I have the original Dot, I like the simplicity and the red/grey color scheme, and I have 6006, Headlong, and Kind Time because I genuinely like the art (especially Kind Time). I'd like to get the yellow Houndtooth deck (I think it's the first too?), I like the shade of yellow but I don't want to spend more than ~$30 on it. I also preordered one of the upcoming multicolored Checkerboard decks because it was the first of the series that I liked (monochrome checker backs are awful)

Aside from those decks their designs are Fontaine-level boring and repetitive, but I still hold Fontaine in even lower regard since they have the one. Single. Back. Design. I just like the decks with flowers

Indeed.
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

hsbc wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 2:17 am I like the aesthetics of this deck - even the bad kerning of "World" is part of the 90s vibe, fonts and computers back then weren't as typographically advanced as they are now.

Sounds fair, I have the Checkerboard with a single yellow block and somehow the 6006 grew on me (but didn't pick it up), that's about all. I get it that for A1WW and Fontaine, or even like Lotus in Hand, that they have set up a standardized price range for "cardistry decks" that will just continuously surpass what many would consider a fair price for typical playing cards. The devil lies in the details when it comes to their shipping fee; take "standardized" with a grain of salt. However, at least there's always a catch/reasoning in these cardistry brands to justify their pricetag, for instance:

Fontaine: (1) Zach and friends demonstrating flashy cardistry promo vids; (2) Some releases are brand collabs
Lotus in Hand: (1) The cardistry group performing cardistry promos with great scenery or skit; (2) Ultra limited + unique Dex Playing Card printing
Cardistry Touch: (1) Promo with new moves; (2) Unique tuckbox + card stock and finish (mostly) + fully-for-cardistry faces
NDO/Jaspas: (1) New tutorials/moves that display the deck to its maximum capacity; (2) Unnamed printer most of the time
Dealersgrip: (1) Unorthodox and unique design

On the contrary...

ANYONE: ???

If you see the list above, the bottom line for the reputation of these brands are mostly the cardistry promos. Recolored bland-af deck? "Fine, we got you covered with the flashy moves in the promo," says the marketing team. ANYONE is ANYTHING BUT. When Noel Heath was still with A1WW their promo vids were already pretty scarce, but he manages to drop some bombshell magic x cardistry promo vids like the one he did with the 6006. But after he left, A1WW is pretty much just a website occasionally selling decks with ripped off or recycled designs, and the reputation or the hype is generally spread by word of mouth among cardists. Yes, there are a few collabs and unique designs littered here and there (6006, Headlong, Kind Time), but the occurrences are extremely rare. Now that Noel Heath is gone, there's not even a figure that represents the team, nor are there any promo cardistry vids. Just slapping some images on their account and calls it a day. Hence the reason I can't grasp how this brand is still relevant in the community nowadays compared to it's fellow cardistry brands, except for their loyal followers.

Then again, this deck is a customized one which is sort of welcoming. But I'm just thinking about the brand's reputation in general, not per deck design.

NOTE: I've went back to re-edit my initial comment to its most original state so people can see what mistake I made that prompted @Harvonsgard to point it out. As for whether my mistake deserves his name-calling, readers be the judge.
