House of Cardistry
Hello all!! I’m absolutely brand new to cardistry as of 7 days ago... I’m into photography and regularly watch Peter McKinnon’s videos and that, in a nutshell, is how I ended up here... via Chris Ramsay, Ekaterina and numerous other channels I’ve been scouring this past 7 days. I know this is an absolutely crazy idea, but I’m thinking of starting a YouTube channel myself and let folks watch (and laugh) at the struggles of a guy who is:
A) 54 years old and just now discovering cardistry, and
B) dumb enough to videotape the learning process!
It may actually be of help to other newcomers to see that they aren’t the only ones spending more time picking cards up off the floor than wowing their friends and family with their mad skillz... When I post the first video I’ll give you all the heads up. It should be good for some laughs, and who COULDN’T use some laughs nowadays??

Re: House of Cardistry
Welcome to UC,
looking forward to what you got. Hopefully it'll inspire me to practise cardistry more regularly and serious as well.
If you haven't found them yet, Jaspas' School of Cardistry and lotusinhand are imo the best channels on youtube providing great tutorials. Cardistrytouch is as well a pretty good channel but I would tend to say their tutorials are more for advanced cardists.
Anyhow, have fun.

Re: House of Cardistry
The House of Cardistry YouTube channel is now up. I just finished filming the video for the first installment this morning and after I get it edited and pieced together I’ll post it. Nothing fancy, just a baseline so you can see exactly where I’m at now and why I even started the channel.

Episode 2 is up on YT, if anybody is in need of a chuckle! I do feel
like I’m improving though, and that’s really the bottom line. Establish a foundation, build on it and keep trying to add new things in as you polish and perfect the others....

Episode 3 is now up. Not much in the way of tangible progress, but I do run through a partial look at my card collection, as well as give my brief take on Andrei Jikh’s Genesis V1 video...

Heya, I can't seem to find your channel. The Youtube link in your profile takes me to a page saying that what I'm looking for is unavailable? Any ideas?

Re: House of Cardistry
Thanks for the link. That helps a lot when I watched your first too it took some hunting. This made it much easier. Your latest had the line I've been waiting to see if we'd hear. 4:23 "I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I keep a deck of cards on me just about every where I go now" Warms the cockles of me heart it does.
Btw, I enjoy the struggle and the smiles that happen when you discover a little something that helps a person out. So if you feel like showing your progression do it, don't feel like folks don't want to see or hear about it or watch your face light up when you do something a little better than you did before. It's really all good stuff and I've enjoyed your videos. Thanks for sharing with us.

Re: House of Cardistry
Thank you for the link!
It's really great seeing a fellow beginner going through the motions. I've always enjoyed cards and have been collecting them for around 18 months (on and off) but it was the time during lockdown this year that really led to the start of me practicing and playing with cards A LOT. A deck of cards in my hand became a staple in my conference calls.
Keep up with the videos Carl, looking forward to where you're at in your next video with your flourishes! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

Re: House of Cardistry
Thank YOU for checking out the videos and for the sub! Very much appreciated and the next video will be coming out late next week. I’ve been working on the LePaul spread and Sybil cut for the past couple of days and while neither (especially the Sybil cut) are anywhere near ready for prime time, I’ve been pleasantly surprised that I was able to do either at ANY level!

Re: House of Cardistry
Mine probably isn’t much better. It’s not consistent for sure. Sometimes I can get it to look decent in about a 10” line but if I try to do the “S” thing... it gets ugly quickly!! Something else I just can NOT get a feel for whatsoever right now is the anaconda dribble... I’m spraying cards all over the place. I’m gradually working up a riffle fan too but that’s also a long way from being any good. My Sybil cut is actually coming along nicely for only having started working on it two days ago. I really need to stop trying to do so many things at once. It would be nice to really be good at the few things I can already do before trying anything else!!

Oooooh! Damn man, you're making great progress! The way you describe your riffle fan vs what I saw in the video... two different things! You're really starting to nail these moves. Well done

Re: House of Cardistry
Thanks! What’s actually on the video itself is the one or two times I could get it right... the rest get edited out!! It is kind of funny though that with me at least, I can do a move 1000 times and it’ll be awful but then, on the 1001st try, some thing clicks and I can get it done on a rudimentary level but it gets me on the right track to improving the mechanics of the move. That’s been especially true of the riffle fan. Fortunately, my job allows me a lot of spare minutes to get the cards out and I practice a LOT at home too. I’m probably getting 5-6 hours a days worth of practice, which is crazy if you think about it but I’m completely hooked on cardistry...

Re: House of Cardistry
I just watched your video. You're starting to develop the touch! Great to see you're strides and you are making great strides. Really well done. I'm impressed and your focus is inspiring me to do better myself. I knew when I saw your post in what you added to your collection that you were a fan of the Bikes Orange backs. I am too. It's great to be able to pick them up so inexpensively lately. They used to be an irritating price for a few years. Now they're priced right to be a user.
Five to six hours worth a fun with cards each day, that's great. Crazy how such simple things change our lives.

Re: House of Cardistry
I have been looking forward to your latest installment. I enjoyed this one. You appear to have more confidence in your moves grabbing up that fresh deck for a fan. Good stuff!
Was that a WR Case and Sons small lock back I noticed you using to pierce the cellowrap? My vision isn't the best but that's what it looked like to me.

Thanks, Fes!! The blade is actually a Zippo that came with a lighter I bought a few years ago. The lighter is long gone but the knife is my EDC utility blade.

Sorry I haven’t posted a video lately. I got a pretty bad cut on my right hand at work and have had to put the cards aside for the time being... one handed cuts with my left (dominant hand) only for me right now... it should be good as new in the next week or so. Fortunately no stitches for me.

Sorry to hear that Karl but I am glad you didn't lose any digits. Work related hand injury is usually on the "oh that's really bad" side of the spectrum. Hope you're still able to enjoy some of the hobby though whilst being down to one gripper. Glad you're doing well enough to post here.House of Cardistry wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 1:56 pm Sorry I haven’t posted a video lately.
