Hi everyone!
My name is Jeff Thomson and I am from San Diego CA, currently living in Los Angeles with plans to join the Castle when things become more normal (I was a junior member years ago). I went to college in New York; I've been doing magic since 7th grade, started busking at 14, and have been getting back into magic in a huge way the last few years since the post college rush of life has settled...corona notwithstanding, lol. I'm turning 27 this November and I do cards and close up - but been working more and more into parlor. Oh yeah, I've been doing a straitjacket escape since sophomore year of high school busking too.
I'm currently working on beginning caridstry and rope magic - though I attended Dan and Dave first US lecture at the Magic Apple years and years ago! I do almost magic exclusively with very little flourishes beyond some basic fans and some fancy swinging false cuts. I can basically do Sybil and the Werm, currently working on the lepaul spread and the revolution cut as far as cardistry is concerned. I'm picking up Trilogy again and seeing what is easy enough to learn and try to build up to, haha - there is some gnarly hard stuff on there.
I'll be asking around for tips as I go, I'm really looking forward to getting involved with a forum again - I haven't contributed something like this in years and years- since PenguinMagic and AnythingMagic if anyone remembers those forums from back in the day.
I wanted to rejoin the Magic Cafe if anyone had advice for signing on...I tried to use gmail but it wouldn't let me....?
My life as a magician was changed because for forums. My mentor Don Driver was a retired magician who lived in Tennessee. He saw my tabletop I had made for busking and he messaged me. We developed a close friendship, using AIM to talk about magic and to video chat. He became one of my best friends and he's the one who sent me the straitjacket for my birthday and christmas. So I hope that feeling of mentorship and camaraderie continues here.
Wonderful to meet you all, can't wait to be part of the community
