TapATalk support is coming soon

Unread post by Mike Ratledge »

Guys, I didn't remember having needed to install an extension for Tap-a-Talk, but apparently it was there.

Actually it will be educational for me to do it myself, since the newer version of phpBB makes it as simple as uploading, unzipping and enabling it. Hopefully not famous last words.

I am at my mom's until Tuesday, but I will try to get it done once I unpack my Chromebook here (just arrived last night).

Looks easy enough, smaller than 1MB of php scripts - compressed in ZIP format.

Have the security issues that Montenzi mentioned been addressed in the latest version?

The new code was written to avoid all of the issues with previous code, which I was not aware of specifics.

Is there any update on this? I keep checking tapatalk and no go. Have still mostly just been avoiding UC. For me, the browser version on my phone is just too much of a pain to use.

I tried - successfully - to install the Tap-a-Talk support extension late last night, and unfortunately it is broken.

This caused the system to be unavailable until around 2:30AM or so this morning while I was trying to figure out how to manually remove that extension from the phpBB software, which means that the software scripting is both broken and crap. I assume that it is currently running on other phpBB systems, but for now I am done screwing with it until I am assured that it won't totally break the system yet again.

Montenzi Design again had to do a bit of hand holding and even then log into the cPanel remotely and give me a tech assist, because simply removing the phpbb_mods entry from all three sections of the SQL database is not sufficient to completely disable that extension.

One more time: thanks Alex for giving us renewed life here at UC!

For what it's worth: Using the forum on a mobile browser is much better than pre-upgrade. Before, I would always switch to "desktop mode", but now it works really well.

I second this. I've gotten used to using it on Safari iOS so am not worried and going back to TapATalk.

If you look at this download page https://www.tapatalk.com/download_phpbb you will find that this version was updated in May. But at the same time, three days ago, one user posted a support request about the same problem with scripts after installation. And it's still not fixed. I don't know why. Maybe it works on some boards, but not here.

Just for records, it was "phpBB 3.1/3.2/3.3 Series Stable Release 05/27/2020 2.1.8" Wait for the next version and try again

I dunno. It seems like we get along just fine without it.

I am not getting into a situation where I have to down the board yet again because somebody can't write php scripts. Hell, I can check for dependencies - and it is not a problem with internal links, the files are not being installed properly by the script.
