Oooo I like it. Nice backs nice color, might actually have to back this one despite my aversion to anything KS these days.

Looks nice! Back reminds me of the scrollwork on the old tangents.
Just pledged - thanks for the heads-up.

The faces are pretty decent, and the AoS is pretty impressive, but I kinda feel the backs don't really match the weathered look of the faces. Somehow, I dont really like the weathered effect on the courts and numbers either. The tuck box could definitely be improved, too. I pledged for these, this deck seems pretty promising.

The court cards seem like to our court card who have in France ! Pretty nice deck ! I'm sure !

I also like the backs. Classy! What I don't like is when the face borders don't match back borders. If that weathered look on the faces were on the back borders, I'd be more inclined to pledge. But even still, I think I'm just getting a little sick of these computer animated designs (especially the court cards) no matter how good or bad.

Yes, there is clearly a strong trend of "obviously digital illustration" these days. Seems like most of the KS decks are following this mold.
I never think of this kind of deck as "playing cards" but more of a picture book that just happens to have some pips thrown on it. It's totally my personal bias, I'll admit, but I mentally lump this kind of look with the collector decks from tourist gift shops that have some picture of dolphins on the back.

I see what you guys are saying. I guess me being as art impaired as I am your comments brought that which I was overlooking to light. I can see how this practice would annoy other creators who put more work in projects. This one does not scream gift shop to me as have a number of KS decks. In my eyes the pros outweigh the cons on this one. I still have not pledged yet as I am too annoyed by a couple of recent KS projects and the BS that is going on with them.

This one doesn't scream "gift shop" nearly as much as that Bicycle Majestic deck (IMO), but I do agree.

This deck is definitely far superior to a "gift shop" deck, I didn't mean to imply it was that bad. This one is pretty nice on the whole.
But in my own mind I tend to classify decks differently than most people I guess, into "designed" and "illustrated" and I perceive those very differently. This one is illustrated and to me more akin to the decks that have photos, as the "strength" of the deck relies far more on the illustration and less on the actual design, composition, balance, details, etc. I only have a couple "illustrated" decks, most notably the Blue Bloods but those have the artwork so carefully and thoroughly integrated that they appear to be a more cohesively designed package.
Sorry for the tangent, but it is always interesting to see and hear the perspectives of how people perceive creative projects.

I feel the same way with the "designed" vs. "illustrated" Decks. A lot of the Deviant Art decks fall into the "illustrated" category. They're great to look at but not great for using in an actual card game. The Federal 52 Deck is a great example of a Deck that is illustrated AND designed exceptionally well.
Finding PIP placements and a uniform look that works consistently for 50+ face cards is not always an easy thing to do!
thanks, Randy

I agree with Randy. I pledged for Federal 52 which is a masterpiece. This one here is both poorly designed and illustrated I think.

I have to disagree with both Paul and Randy here. What I think matters the most is how the finished product looks. I really don't care if it is hand drawn or an image generated by a computer program. To me it is the same thing the designers are doing by using kickstarter. They are using their god given artistic ability, which I lack, to create a deck and stick it on Kickstarter. They are risking nothing but their time and if it doesn't work out, they are out nothing. If I want to do a deck, I have to pay someone to create the deck and take the risk. If the deck doesn't do well, I will be out money. Even if I put it on Kickstarter, I am still out the design fees.
To be honest, I like this deck a lot and hope it gets funded. But I think to look down on it because the deck was created using digital illustration and calling it a gift shop deck, is a bit snobbish in my opinion.
Thanks!

I was actually referencing the Deviant Art designs as mostly "illustrative" as opposed to "designed". I think the Voyager Deck has a nice balance that definitely makes it a playable design. The coloring has somewhat of a Photoshop airbrush look to it that gives it the "digital" vibe I think Paul is referring to. I''ll pledge for it sometime this week.
Thanks, Randy

A lot of people are not going to have yours or Paul's artistic ability, you guys are amazing!!! For the artistically challenged, like myself, this is probably the only way we can somewhat level the playing field. We still are going to lose, it just won't be 92 - 0!!!
Thanks!

This deck needs to be funded, looks better than most current decks. The blue box stands out from other decks.

Hello everyone, just wanted to say hi. My name is Bill Collins the creator of Bicycle Voyager deck. I have read most of everyone post about the deck, and would like to thank you for the good words. It seems as if I might not make the goal, perhaps it is do to no add-on's (coins, tokens, etc). I know things change in people's personal life and might need to drop there pledge, but that is the biggest challenge I have right now, I would be so close to the goal if not so many people dropped out.

I was one of those who dropped out. Unfortunately you are a side effect of the recent spate of of projects that are not fulfilling and I have decided to no longer do any KS decks.
It obviously is not 100% fair to you, but right now there are zero protections for buyers and it's simply too possible for people to simply take the money and run. Kickstarter needs to change.

Sorry to see you go, but I do understand. I have had other people tell me the same thing, It is mind boggling that Kickstarter can't do something about projects that are unfulfilled. It does make it hard on my self and others like me with there first project.
I'm glad you dropped for that reason and not because you changed your mind and thought the design looked like crap.
I don't know if it is to late to cancel the project, but I have been thinking about it. I don't know if it would look better if I cancel or the project was unsuccessful. I don't like to quite, but ether way I lose.

As my project “Voyager” falls on it's last days it appears as if it will not reach it's funding. If and when (and that’s a big IF) I ever try to fund this project again, what would be some suggestions that I might want to do differently. I am not a big fan of add-on's, but I might want to rethink that.

I'm a backer of yours,I know some of your reasons (which are good) for wanting to make this deck and you seem passionate about it. People like all that extra stuff so I guess you can come up with dice, wooden boxes, artwork, shirts, etc. A T-shirt of one of the gaff cards with that creature going through the ship would be great.

Hmm, I'm not sure what others think but personally I think the back doesn't suit the faces on this one.
Perhaps add a marble texture to the borders on the back, or keep that back for another deck. Then you could make a back that will go well with the marble texture. The current back does look classy, I just find the design inconsistent.
Stay positive with all your comments and updates.
One thing that you don't have to change but I'll still mention is the Jokers, perhaps you could make a Kraken Joker instead? I don't know but theme is quite important for me.
I don't think you need add-ons if people like your deck enough.
I'm quite new to Cardistry forums but just sharing my own opinions.
Good luck

You're welcomed. Your deck was the last good looking one until all this recent garbage came out.
