NEON is the thing of now. :ucstar: :ucstar: :ucstar:

However, just a note on the new printer:
For this project, I will use the Liquorice Press who are a UK based company that have more than 35 years of experience in printing all manner of printed work (including playing cards).

The card specs are as follows:

※Printed on 280 gsm blind core stock (the exact same stock used by the large playing card producers).
※Linen embossed finish which creates an air cushion to ensure cards glide across one another.
※Specially engineered hard lamination to protect the artwork and further decrease friction between cards.

Because of the unique ink, a final prototype will be thoroughly and meticulously checked, tested and evaluated before any full production run is ordered.

In the unlikely scenario that there is an issue with the quality or standards of the cards printed by the Liquorice Press, I will use Cartamundi as a back-up producer to print the cards and still use the Liquorice Press to produce the tuck case.

If I have to use Cartamundi, it may not be possible to support the specialist ink on the backs and the faces of the cards. But should this be the case, I will contact Cartamundi's custom deck team and see if there is something we can do.

LOL. It is kinda trash, but in a good way.

I've been talking with David regarding the printer and he is very excited for everyone to see the quality they offer. They use the same stock as Cartamundi and they handle the tucks as well. LP (Liquorice Press) is hoping to gain some traction as a true competitor so I am actually really interested to see how this goes.

While David's Highborn project wasn't successful, I did get my hands on a prototype tuck and the quality is excellent.

I hope this funds so we can see more of David's ideas come to life. Fingers crossed

Yep, i love surprises like this but they are very rare. I'm in :)
I'm very curious about that special ink and how the handling will be, i've never heard or know any deck that is produced by "The Liquorice Press".
Personally i would prefer these printed by Cartamundi to be on the save side, but in some cases a new/unknown printer suprised me very positive.

Nothing about it really jumps out at me, but somehow taken together it all works.

I'm in.

This was another thread I just nearly passed on, but decided to anyway. I agree with folks here that this isn't my kind of deck, but this one works. The price is decent enough. I am in for two decks. Thanks for posting this one.

I don't like all the blank space on the courts but other than that this isn't bad. But I'm not willing to take a ride on a new printer so hopefully it works out for those that pledge. But I'll wait until the reviews are in before I consider buying.

Also, in the prototype pic the tuck says "Printed by Cartamundi." I'm hoping that's just a mock up and the actual tucks don't say that because that is very misleading.

EDIT: Just checked the price- $20, shipped for a deck printed on a new printer!? Insert vulgar 2pc. comment here.

You have to take into consideration that this is shipped by a local business, not the "norm" of Gamblers or 52-Wonders' fulfillment. Plus, US gets all the decks cheap and that's the unbearable fact: US are more used to cheap prices while the rest of the world endures/suffers from the cost of US' privilege. So not sure if complaining on not having this "privilege" this one time is really justifiable ;)

I'd say this is totally a reasonable price for what it is and by whom it's produced.

Shipping is only $6ish which is a little on the high end but I don't have a huge problem with that. Especially if USA shipping is rated higher in order to help lower the cost of Intl. shipping. I have always been an advocate of this method in order to try and help you over seas collectors. I don't know how you guys do it but if I have to pay an extra buck or two to help you guys save five then it's worth it to me.

My gripe is for the total price, landed. Even if this were printed by USPCC, $14ish before shipping is still too high IMO.

Hey all,

I'm Dave, I designed this deck. I just wanted to say thanks for the support and the feedback you guys have posted.

Just to address the elephant in the room...

I appreciate the fact that a new printer comes with risk, but I feel it's a good step forward for other creators who want options for printers. The more quality printers there are, the more competitive pricing becomes, the cheaper quality decks become for the end-user. So I think it's worth giving it a shot for the sake of the community as a whole.

Furthermore, I will be meticulously evaluating and testing the final prototypes. I have a number of experienced magic and cardistry friends at my local magic club who will also be evaluating the deck and if the card quality and usability doesn't compete with the quality of the larger organisations, I will print the deck with Cartamundi. So rest assured I am exceptionally dedicated to ensuring that this deck is of the best quality it can be.

@vasta41:

I'm sorry that your aren't willing to take a chance at this time. Hopefully the reviews will give you some comfort and you can get a deck later.

The images you see on the project are 3D renders of the deck, the text on the bottom will change depending on the above review and who the final printer will be. I thought I had blurred this out enough to not be legible and as you say, mislead. I will address this over the next day or two. Thanks for pointing it out.

Also, the flat image at the bottom included the bleed of the designs (it was something I missed which was pointed out to me yesterday), this would have added a little more white space around the cards which may have added to the visual white space around the court cards. I have now adjusted this image to be more reflective of the final product, but you may find there is still a little too much white space around the court cards, for your taste.

As for the price, again I can appreciate that you won't want to risk this money on an unknown printer, but thanks all the same for the feedback.

I'm here to answer any questions you guys may have. So feel free to ask.

All the best and thanks again.

Dave

That's good to know about the courts, thanks for chiming in. I will be keeping an eye on the reviews, Dave. Good luck!

As a former nuclear engineering crew member aboard a submarine and having the radiation symbol tattooed on me, I really like this deck. While I think the tuck design could have been a little more detailed and full, I think this design works fairly well.

I was surprised to see a biohazard deck as an unlockable. That deck looks pretty good too.

Will the ink on the tuck and cards be UV reactive? Probably the best deck theme to actually have glowing ink.

Well, you'd probably be a lot more qualified than me to design this deck, my nuclear engineering knowledge is somewhat lacking :)

I was in two minds about the amount of detail on the tuck when I was designing the deck, but I made a decision to go more minimalist and just went with it.

The stock that the tuck case is made out of doesn't have any ink on it, it already glows brightly under UV, we are currently engineering the ink to match as closely as we possibly can which will be on the card faces and backs.

Here's the first version of the ink we developed with the card stock under UV (it has changed quite a bit now and will match much more closely), but this should give you an idea of the card stock and how much it glows:

I hope this helps.

All the best,
Dave

I wasn't sure about this one at first, but it's grown on me, so I'm in for one (for now). Part of that is to support another potential printer in this space, which I think is a really good thing. Also hoping the Biohazard version unlocks...

I totally agree, and this was the original idea, but the glow in the dark stock quality available is a bit crappy. We would need to use glow in the dark ink on the tuck, which would just look white in the light and that would just not have the same appeal (at least in my opinion).

I thought that the majority of people would likely not play cards in the dark, or do cardistry/magic in the dark, so the deck had to look good in the light (as well as out of it). As such the blacklight option seemed like the best choice as it functions in both scenarios (albeit you need a black light).

However, potentially a special edition of the deck in the future?

David also added some pledges with it in as well. Grabbed a couple of each. Really interested to see how these cards turn out and what Liquorice Press can bring to the table.

The design is great but I really hate when Kickstarters use these printers nobody has ever heard of. Use uspcc or cartamundi. There's a reason everyone else does. I feel like these cards will come out feeling and handling like crap

I have no problem supporting someone that is trying out a new card company. The more competition, the better, usually.

I have no problem with new printers who deserve a chance, especially those who you feel their determination from the very start. Business integrity can be felt at the very start most of the times. Of course, USPCC and Cartamundi are quality guarantees, but if every project goes to them, it's just like feeding monopolies and giving power to the already powerful, which in turn leaves little space for bargaining. I would prefer USPCC or Cartamundi for not-so-custom decks, but for more customized decks, new printers and manufacturers with potential deserve a try for experimenting on new printing schemes. At least for this project which advertises a new neon color scheme, I don't see how USPCC or Cartamundi will live up to that surprise effect.

There's a reason why Lotrek is still prized as the king of custom decks. Just saying.

Like the 2 messages above mine, I disagree.
But I go as far as saying that, these days, I actually prefer to see new printers being used. First, Cartamundi (which has my fav feel in decks) has stupid high delays with communication and printing these days. USPC as been having a bunch of printing errors making the cards look funny. New printers coming means:
1. Less stuff for cartamundi which hopefully means less delays.
2. More competitiveness between them all, if a new company starts delivering better products, others will feel forced to improve (or at least should).
3. (Most importantly for me) I like having different feeling decks. Yes, I still like my go-to cardistry decks to feel the same, but everything else I want to experience new stuff. Worst case it feels like NPC, I don't like it and don't buy as many from them, only if I absolutely adore the design.

I mean, yeah, competition. But give me an alternative that cares about registration and let's turn the monopoly over to Liquorice Press.

Like i said earlier in this thread, sometimes a new printer/small surprised me very positive.
For example: Beta One & Chao decks by MPC or Circuit & Cyberpunk decks printed with WJPC.
I'm more courious what a new printer will deliver than being scared of something new. It can backfire but if we wouldn't try we will never know.
