The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring - By Kings Wild Project
Hey everyone, I wanted to start a thread for my new Lord of the Rings playing card project.
Basic details so far:
The project will be a Kickstarter for sure. It will have at a minimum three different (unique court cards) decks. There will be a deck that represents each of the books.
Fellowship of the Ring
Two Towers
Return of the King
My license with the Tolkien estate allows me the freedom to make a deck concerning the Hobbit, but unfortunatley there are basically no female characters in the Hobbit, so I will cross that bridge when I get there. It was hard enough findhing meaningful enough female characters for the Trilogy.
Below is the current list of characters & court cards.
I also have a concept to do a companion deck that is nothing but alternate court cards of evil and other characters.
There is an existing thread over in General Discussion, so if you kind and curtious mods could possibly merge these threads I would greatly appriciate it.
As always I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Frodo Baggins
This is the Frodo that will be in the Fellowship of the Rings deck. The plan is for everthing that is gold textured to end up being gold cold foil on the final card.

An absolute yes for me, onboard the train to intricate folklorian art!

This KS campaign will probably set a record for playing cards. I know I will probably go overboard on what I pledge for. Very much looking forward to it!

I'm sure we'll be Tolkien about this for a long time.
Right; I'll see myself out.

Man... this project is sort of like a doomsday clock for Kickstarter. A countdown til the entire platform explodes. They look amazing so far

I'm not huge into LotR but I will definitely still be throwing these in the Baggins.Timmargh wrote:I'm sure we'll be Tolkien about this for a long time.

Me, too, but now doubt I'll overspend; it's a bad hobbit of mine.vasta41 wrote:I'm not huge into LotR but I will definitely still be throwing these in the Baggins.Timmargh wrote:I'm sure we'll be Tolkien about this for a long time.

This is going to be a record-breaker for Kickstarter I reckon, and maybe not just in the playing cards category...
Good luck!

Re: Lord of Rings - By Kings Wild Project
I feel like I should just give Jackson direct access to my checking account at this point based on the number of releases he's come out with that I truly enjoy. This one in particular looks like it's going to be amazing. Count me in, though I may be selling some blood or a kidney or something...

I'm not that interested in LOTR and I'm definitely in.
So, yeah, I think this is going to be huge. At least, I hope so. The Bilbo card is beautiful.

Agreed with everyone... this may be an expensive pledge... probably going to go for a mixed brick or similar to that. But can't wait!
Jackson, any ETA on this kickstarter campaign?

Art style and everything is awesome but is it just me that thinks the transition between the two halfs is not good?

Re: Lord of Rings - By Kings Wild Project
Better for sure!
Since it will be a one-way court, it would be even better if the expression on the "non-ring holder" was different, like mean/hungry

Re: Lord of Rings - By Kings Wild Project
I like that idea! However Tom Bomb, would have never been mean or hungry, the ring had no power over him so it could play on his greed as he had none. I might try something thought. Good word!sms69x wrote:Better for sure!

Re: Lord of Rings - By Kings Wild Project
Hmm... my take would have been that only the ring as a subtle detail would make it one way. A) because of the reason Jackson perfectly mentioned. The ring has no power over Tom and B) so that I wouldn't be to obvious at the first glance. Kind off a Easter egg thing.sms69x wrote:Since it will be a one-way court, it would be even better if the expression on the "non-ring holder" was different, like mean/hungry
The transition is softer/better now. I kinda imagined it different though. I loved that the palms faced each other in the first draft, I would have kept that but incorporated it differently.
Anyhow, I love seeing this evolve. Can't wait to see more cards.
