Moves Playing Cards - Preorder
Available for pre-order here. Decks will start shipping May 2020. Printed by Cartamundi (so maybe will be shipped later ?)
I admit I like the choosen font but that's about it... the rest is meh, to say it the least. Even more for £15 (= $19.43 or €17.81) a deck !

Re: Moves Playing Cards - Preorder
meh is being generous. Like an Anyone WW logo deck with better fonts. That's about it. But hey, it's for a good cause!
"We're passionate about making an impact, so we've committed to donating £1 from every single deck purchase directly to FSC and The Ocean Cleanup Project*."
Might as well donate the £15 directly to the project. Doesn't move me at all and interestingly, doesn't show any cardistry moves which may show how the design accentuates the flourishes and moves.

I know , I try my best to not being too negative and harsh on projects. At the end of the day I'm not forced to buy anything.Eric Lee wrote:meh is being generous.

Re: Moves Playing Cards - Preorder
If they donated $10 per deck which brought the actual deck price down below $10 that would be more what it should cost. Donating 1$ making this nearly an $18 deck is way too much for this design and no features.

Just found out the creator of the deck is Ollie Mealing . He's a close-up magician with some pretty cool tricks. Since he's magician, you can understand the standard faces, but really should have worked harder on the backs.

Fixed that for you . I agree with dissent.Eric Lee wrote:Since he's magician, you can understand the standard faces, but really should have worked harder on the deck.
Maybe some magicians really like the Standard courts. Kinda like Stockholm syndrom you are used to it and therefore learned to like them. But this is nothing but an lazy excuse imo.
Kellar went with modified courts, Caroline has modified courts, TGW - altough of course not a magician but with magic intend for his deck - has modified courts. KWP standard courts are perfectly suitable for magic. Mahdi has full custom courts on his Emanations deck.
Jocu wrote that his custom courts from Fillide were mistaken for standard courts by a layperson - that proves that it has to be standard so that spectators can easily identify the card is nothing but a false notion.
I mean I'm not against standard courts per se, quite the opposite, but then please don't put a price tag above $4.99 on them. Just my $0.02.

YMMV, but the main argument I've seen for standard courts is "it has to be standard to avoid spectators from thinking it's a gaff/trick deck". Which is just as false of a notion, IMOHarvonsgard wrote:it has to be standard so that spectators can easily identify the card

Re: Moves Playing Cards - Preorder
I agree with everyone, this design is lackluster.
I've never had any problems using custom decks for magic as long as the courts are easily recognizable from a distance (i.e. you'll be fine as long as you're not using a Cthulhu deck). I don't know how much of the truth there is in those claims.
For instance, where I live, Bicycle playing cards are already considered exotic as the most current brand is Ducale and they do not have the same courts (Paris pattern like in my profile pic.). And the standard size is either Tarot or Belote, not Poker, this also appears to be exotic to some people. But there's an easy solution: let your spectators examine the deck and shuffle it. Problem solved.

I gotta say, I’m kinda over the whole “lazy is hip” thing.
NOC has done it in spades. (Pun intended)
This deck is just kinda me-too.
