Alhambra Secrets

Unread post by jhaneyzz »

I recently bought a deck of Alhambra Special Edition cards.

I've seen reference to "several secret features hidden in the deck." and have found a few strange irregularities in teh printing of the backs but I can't figure out if this is a marking system or what?

Any hints or ideas?

That's just classic playing card industry lingo that gets thrown around on every single deck release where the artist only bothered to design a back design and a tuck box. Need to sell them somehow, so let's just throw to the release announcment the usual including "perfect for magic and cardistry", "hidden features (I guess there might be something... But so what?)", "top quality (same as any other USPCC deck)", elegant minimal design (we didn't bother to use any time on the artwork)" etc etc etc

I remember the Alhambra deck, I think that I was the one that opened the thread for it (?). It wasn't bad really, there was actually effort put in to the design, which isn't the case on most of the deck releases coming out. Point here is not to bash the Alhambra deck but take all the standard lingo on new releases from larger companies with a grain of salt. Sure, I guess that there might be something hidden there. Might also be that it was just sales talk with a purpose on filling just something to the deck description. Large number of deck releases repeat the same few buzz words and phrases in order to sell them, companies like Ellusionist for example have multiple times in the past used these buzz words to just straight up lie about their product.

Maybe there is a marking system, who knows. There are maybe over a hundred marked custom decks in the market, if not more. Personally I would buy something like Mint's, where I would actually get to know the marking system and not have to guess for it and look it with a magnifying glass. And if you more in it for the hidden symbolisms, go with something from Thirdway Industries, Dedalo decks or Omnia: The Golden Age for example.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

Betrayers, SINS, Eva, Monolith and Order also include hidden symbolism ;)
