My guess would be USPC since Deryn is a magician/reseller.

I really like the cuteness of this deck. I have been seeing it on insta for quite some time. I was looking forward to getting this deck until he released pictures of that tuck.
I understand the idea behind it but it does not fit with the deck in artistic style at all. The cards are very cutesy and cartoony to have this horrible realistic tuck box of 25 cent ramen packaging design. For what? A gimmick? Because other decks like Snackers and squeezers are doing it?
I think I'll save some money and just put an authentic ramen package on my shelf for a quarter, since that is what he was going for.

I agree that this deck could be a little better. Maybe there'll be a V2 someday? I usually hate that but if it's tweaked a bit like you suggest then I think that would be nice. But I'm also okay with the tuck and "inside" being different since I'm really a tuckist after all.

Well, being a tuckist then, there is absolutely no reason to purchase this tuck. You can get the same design at Walmart for a quarter. IMO of course. The only reason to buy this deck is the cutesy design inside. He really dropped the ball on this.
But... see as the designer seems to be a pretty big face on insta at least, I'm sure there won't be too much problem selling these from a popularity contest or hype point of view.

I also own and like Snackers and Squeezers so I guess I prove your point.

To be honest... I think he dropped the ball on almost everything. the back, repeating courts and the tuck
. I understand that folks wanna craft
their very own deck of cards, which is okay of course, but if you don't really have design, illustration, photoshop and/or drawing skills, I would reach out to someone with said skills and collaborate. Best example Omar; he killed it, because he worked together with skilled folks to build something good instead of going for a stick man design.

USPCC came back and decided that his packaging looked too much like ramen and it therefore was Trade Dress Infringement (looks to much like an existing product.) So he's redesigning the tuck. No idea if it will lean into the charm of the cards themselves...

I bet STL reported it because he wanted the tuck to be changed!
Well played.

Lmao! I did not report it! I can definitely see why it got flagged. I hope to see some design inline with the cards, however, I am thinking it will still be some altered version of the same to resemble food packaging.
If he changes it in a good way, I might be in. Also, I wanted to say so before, but wanted to verify, I wouldn't consider these repeating courts. Pretty close though.

I do think it could do with a redesign but that's because the font doesn't match the arc, the arc itself is not even, and they are missing a chicken (most food packaging is designed to show what the food is, like a banana on banana pudding because not everyone around the world is literate.)
As someone that has spent far too much time in asian markets around the world, I'm gonna be a little pedantic:
1. Font is wrong. Top Ramen uses Cooper Black (which this clearly isnt), and Maruchan is a modified version of BauhausC Medium, which again, clearly isn't.
2. the bow of the arc is inverted. On Top Ramen packaging, the arc us facing down, on this its facing up.
3. If they aren't referring to these, could someone there take a crayon a circle the one they think it looks the most like?
I say if youre going to commit copyright infringement: do it right

You're right. I stand corrected here. Since the posture and colours are so similar, I didn't take a closer look and didn't realize that he changed details on the courts.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind it anyways if the courts were to my liking, e.g. with the Lady Moon courts, but these are far from my liking.

I truly don't understand the appeal of this deck: cardistry wannabe back design with random objects mirrored in countless other designs, repeating bowls of noodles on every court, repeating facial expressions for every court regardless of JQK, unrelated chicken for the Ace of Spades (I swear I've seen that chicken head design somewhere before), and a complete copy of an instant noodle packaging.
And then people are showing a fondness for this deck?
We are in an era where the highs and lows of playing cards are far apart, yet the mindsets of the people in between are so unbearably close.

Pun intended?
In all seriousness though. If you see the amount of souvenir decks and trash cards that were produced throughout time, I wouldn't say that the current market is really any different. It's just that the stock quality of the trash stuff is better since outside US printers stepped up their game and Cartamundi and USPCC print almost every design as long as the creator pays them for
.
I don't get it either, that someone would pay more than two bucks (and I wouldn't even spend one penny) for a deck like this but tastes differ and different strokes for different folks. We'll have to await the kickstarter anyways maybe it doesn't fund. I wouldn't mind it that much.
Btw, don't link this to cardistry we have enough to endure there
.

I just like the cute cartoony style of the deck. It was a solid no because of the tuck, but because of the tuck being redesigned it is a maybe depending on the outcome. Deryn hinted on insta that the tuck may match the cartoony style of the cards. If I like it and the price isn't much over 10$ I might be down for it.

One thing you have to understand, is that the creator is 100% Vietnamese American without much experience living in Asia, therefore this creation is very clearly his Oriental imagination of how "the Asia" looks and feels like, nothing different from the stereotypical depiction of Asian culture (e.g. Chinese takeaways) in films.
For instance, Panda has nothing to do with Vietnam, but highly used as a symbol of China. All diversity of different Asian countries fall and melt into one that's assumed and depicted as the image of the Far East/the Oriental. It's just sad to see this type of creation in the 2020s.

I think this is a step in the right direction. The shapes are much better than before, The layout is much cleaner, and the fonts are clear and aligned.
I would like to see a more custom font for the logo. And mbe replace the pattern with a hand drawn interpretation on a bowl of noodles. Mbe with the suits mixed in as a garnish
The panda can work, if it's like a mascot popping up and giving nutritional information like "daily dose of 52" or "high fiber"
I really like the use of drop shadows. They definitely add an element of depth to this design
It's been my experience living in Asia that design is all over the map. From clean to cluttered, high end artsy to classic and traditional. Most modern designs tend to more poppy than subdued like classical art, and reflects a harmony with nature and freshness in the world around it

Similar to a few, I liked the cutesie look of the deck, but the tuck was lackluster. I was hopeful for this redesign, but honestly it feels like there is no emotion to it. I know he was in a rush to slap something together after the first design got rejected, but that is exactly what it looks like, slapped together. Should have take an extra few weeks to really think it through instead of rushing it to get it to KS.

Not surprised at all. The whole idea of this deck was to mock the OPC "-er" series like Peelers and Snackers initially, and he also did a few other renders to mock a few other brands. He even said it very subtlely himself in the campaign:
What started as a joke turned into a reality when I posted a poll on Instagram. I had 3 designs for playing cards and of the 3, Noodlers were the clear favorite.
//
Designed with cardists, magicians, collectors and ramen lovers in mind, Noodler's Playing Cards will hopefully make you hungry for more. The name "Noodlers" is a nod to another series of playing cards.. hence the "-ers."
Thing is, is Noodlers better than OPC?
Apparently NO.
