Oath Standard Collectors Edition - Lotrek's January Surprise

Just wanted to give this deck its own thread with a temporary title. Here's what we know so far: It isn't the Royal Oath. It will be released in January. There are two versions, hard to see in the photo but it sure does look like a gold and a silver version there. Numbers, Lotrek has said about 300+100, which if I'm interpreting that correctly means 300 of one colour and 100 of the other (getting anxious about snagging one of those 100 already lol). Based on the past the 100 would be the silver. Also given the limited number we can assume they aren't the rumoured Oath Standard, possibly the collectors edition though.

Possibly the cards in the back are gold but are in dim light.
Anyways whatever they are, more than likely I'm buying. I always prefer the decks already to be ready to ship when purchased.

2020 is shaping up to really be something else for Lotrek! I can't wait.

Ergo, something else for my wallet
. I still need to get some of the white Less and the Player's edition of the Chronos. The Back of these looks pretty awesome. But seeing Crypt and Royal Oath upcoming, this might be a pass. We'll see.

Glad I sold both of my Golden Oath decks... As a complete-ist, all of these variants (even years after the original design was released) are simply killing my will to own any Lotrek decks. In fact, all I have left are Silk and the 2019 52+J decks.

I hear you theCapraAegagrus. I have just had to come to grips with the fact I will not have one of everything of some designers.
There are just too many rare variants and too many other things I want. Most recently, getting all of those Elixir variants was an insane task (unless you are Sherman...wait...that proves my point.
). Having an incomplete collection doesn't bother me so much. I believe in quantity over quality now

That's why I gave myself rules, no test, error, experimental or decks numbering under 100. None of it is realistic to collect and if I had one I'd want to have the others which would only lead to heartache so better to nip it in the bud from the start lol. Lotrek has been very good on variants, usually sticking to just two, since the craziness of the Grotesk series which if including the experimental and original Grotesque pair was a whole brick!

*Chuckles in wanna get rid of my House of the Rising Spades Cartomancer*
I'll never understand why some want to have a complete set of decks that are just variants of each other.
Silk red and blue, get it, different back design.
All Arabesque, Ambassadors, Icons or KWP subscription decks - I start to scratch my head but kinda get it, since there are some differences there.
All Split Spades, Monarchs or fontaines - like why, just why? I mean, I could get it if e.g. fontaines weren't produced anymore and you have a defined end. But just buying everything to stay complete??? Ending up with colours and variants that doesn't please you just to cater an urge?
Just pick the colour you like and you're set and done, imo.
P.S.: Seriously though, does anyone want an opened but otherwise perfectly fine House of the Rising Spades Cartomancer edition? All you need to do is pay for shipping from Europe. I need to clean out my collection.

I'm the same way but most people seem to disagree
It's funny you mention the Cartomancer deck, I sold mine because I also got a Gatekeeper and the cards are identical
Meanwhile I've also got a Floral Fontaine deck and they'd have to have a very interesting design to get me to buy another color
The first 4 or 5 Orbit decks are also very boring, but since they were first people want them

Yah, I definetly go for a Keymaster and because of that I don't have the use (not to mention space, lol) for Cartomancer anymore.
Same goes for Royal Oaths and the sneaked peek ones here. I'll take a close look at them before I decide what variant (or even if) is interesting for me.

Split Spades and Monarchs are awesome playing card decks.
As in, when you play euchre and poker a lot, it's refreshing to pull out a new color when the deck gets stale.

For sure. The emphasis was more on the
all of them. Nothing wrong with switching it up. If one really likes all colours or doesn't have a colour preference, go for it. What I was referring to is more that there are collectors that actually don't care or even dislike a deck but buy it regardless just so they can say their set is complete. I don't have a problem with that, each to their own, it just seems unnecessary to me. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have had other collections in my time where I was very much a completist. With playing cards, I realized very early that I was not going to be able to buy everything I liked. Thankfully, I have stayed away from that bug.
For me, it is really on a case by case basis, but generally the tuck and cards have to be different for me to buy them. For instance, the recently fulfilled Sumi Kitsune. I only got the craft editions because the standard editions have the same cards. A much as I love Gio, a couple of his last sets the 3rd or 4th deck in the set has been the same cards in a different tuck and I have not gotten those.
On the other hand, there are a couple decks out there that I would hypocritically buy probably as many recolors as they offered because I like the design that much for some reason. One of those would be Sirius B. I have v1 and 2 and hope they do more.
When I look at a designer like JR, I am so happy that I do not have that completist tendency. For all those variants I would definitely have to be on a corner giving handys for cards.

If I like a particular design I want
all of it.
I want all of expensive decks to be limited in releases. Not number of decks produced - rather number of variants. There was originally ONE Oath deck (Golden) to celebrate the demise of Half Moon Playing Cards. Now there's gonna be like 6 by the time 2020 is done. That's stupid.

I'm so glad I'm not a collector!
When I like something, I buy. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.
When I don't like something, I pass. No matter who did it, how many were printed or how many (re)colors exist.

Another post by Harvonsgard, theCapraAegagrus or aznh that isn't on-topic will face repercussions. Seriously, aren't we better than this?

They're humans more or less, which on the whole are generally terrible and half of which have the intelligence and awareness of a sack of rocks, so maybe no?
Anyway, the problem with a great design is that it usually looks great in
any colour or edition, so in many cases I will want more than one. I've mentioned before that the first few years I was collecting, starting around the time of the first Venexiana campaign, I always limited myself to one deck only from a campaign even if I wanted more. I'm a bit more loose now, if I really love a design I'll consider getting more than one variant if it has them, though sometimes it means giving up something else which I like less because those of us who are not wealthy have to make tough choices all the time over a single deck. Receiving the Grotesque Limited last year was no less exciting than a new release or the Standard back in 2014, it's one of my top 10 decks and I get to have more of it without having doubles! That's just fantastic to me.

See what I've done to my signature? To add to that, when I like something, price doesn't matter either (if it's reasonable).
So for this deck(s), some more cards and the tuck please.

Like those who are too stupid to understand the concept of rhetorical questions or figures of speech? Or the ones that deliberately ignore both to share their crude world view and/or flawed perception of reality?
Aaaanyways... I was politly urged to stay on topic so here we go. 2 versions confirmed by Lotrék on instagram. Since Lotrék mentioned somewhere that he was planning to have a continues deck in his shop, I would guess this version(s) of Oath might be it.
