Eastern & Orient Express Set

Unread post by Bradius »

Roope and I sometimes exchange cards. I just received an interesting set of cards in a really nice box entitled "Eastern & Oriental Express". The box included two cards wrapped with only the jokers showing. Roope was not sure if the courts were custom or not, so he asked if I would open one of the decks and check out the cards...so.

First the box really was nice and included the following card inside, which was a bit interesting. It makes me wonder if the cards might have been a gift for those being photographed for publicity purposes. Also, it should be noted that the cards are gilded in gold on the corners.

The joker is really nicely executed.

And for the courts...YES! all are really nice custom courts!

Can anyone provide additional information on the deck?

Thanks Roope for this awesome set.

A quick google search led me to the photo below on pininterest that notices the cards were produced by Waddingtons around 1990.

Interesting in that I just received my decks today that I won on an Ebay auction for a very good price. Mine are the VS-OE set. I will post pictures when I get home.

The other Joker and all the Heart courts have a different look compared to the VSOE deck though, other courts are the same.

Through Google I did find out that Eastern & Oriental Express is a luxury train in Bangkok, so being that the company seems to be a different one from the VSOE, maybe the printer is as well...?

Pictures from my set ...

My set has the gilded corners but it looks like Jock1971's sets are not?

Roope is correct. My deck is different than the VSOE deck. The case is different, the AoS is different (But similar), the KoH, QoH and JoH are different, one of the Jokers is different and the backs are different. It does look like the same artist drew both decks, but just changed the heart courts for some reason.

Again, can anyone shed some light on my version as opposed to the VSOE version?
