Borderless back or with a border?

Unread post by bethsobel »

My personal preference is pretty firmly in the 'borderless' camp, but will that choice hurt the audience spread? I know borderless can be scratched / marked on the edges, which is not ideal. Other pros or cons I'm not aware of? Thank you in advance!

I typically like borderless myself, however, I would also agree that borders look great on some designs and borderless doesn't fit every design.

Lots of magic tricks are easier with Boarders. And many designs both look better with boarders, and will have less printing flaws than boarderless, where slight variations in cut lines can cause problems with patterns or art close to the die line. Generally my perspective is that unless you have a strong reason you want a design to be boarderless, you should make it bordered. I don't know that I have seen anyone not be interested in a deck based on having/lacking a boarder.

I would second this. I aswell never encountered someone who said, "Oh, I'm not going to buy/support this deck because I don't like that it is bordered/borderless".
Go with what you feel/like the most. It's your deck.

For me it strongly depends on the backdesign anyways. Some designs work better borderless (e.g. Luxx, Virtuoso), some work better with borders.

Obviously, a back design should be designed to be a bordered or borderless back from the start. Personally I prefer borderless backs due to the aesthetics of fans and other flourishes, and the insane amount of white bordered decks already out there.

There have certainly been decks where I've thought "I'd probably back this deck if it was borderless", but not many.

Thank you all for the info! I will go with borderless, in that case. For this deck, I prefer the borderless aesthetic.

I have seen plenty of posts from people on both sides saying the would or wouldn't purchase based on border/borderless. However, it is far less than those that would just have a preference one way or the other.
