Hey guys,
I received a message from Erik about their new Albino Dragon release...
"Hey Jason,
Thought you might be interested in some exclusive pics of our next deck coming out tomorrow. It's call Synthesis and is inspired by our love of all things Cyberpunk:"
It will be launching tomorrow morning on Kickstarter. I don't have a launch time.
I'm really liking this one!

I like it too, but what I DON'T LIKE is how nice the back design looks on the box and then seeing it on the cards with big fat white borders.

I ask this question in the most sincere way possible but why does most everyone here seem to
hate white borders? I've seen threads here where people really loath them. And believe me- I'm the king of letting insignificant things bother me but seriously- why white borders?

Vasta I am no expert but for card handlers and magicians it is preferred to have very thin borders...Personally I only collect the deck for its art/box and overall look so I do not really mind but we have plenty of cardists on these forums

I'm just wondering what the
paper airplanes are doing in the back design

... Only kidding... <crawling back into my hole now>

I am a flourisher as well as magician and any trick I can possibly think of which requires an inverted card would be better with a normal/ thick bordered deck. I suppose the argument for fanning could be made but that's about all I can think of. I mostly collect cards now for overall design too... I was just curious.

I don't think everyone hates white borders, but cardists prefer thin borders so that fans and spreads can show a lot of the back design, which creates more interesting and better looking flourishes. Magicians, on the other hand, prefer a regular to wide white border so that certain sleights will be easier to perform. Magicians would also prefer the color of the border to match the color of the faces, which is usually white, while cardists don't really care about that as much.

Yeah, it's not white borders that people hate, from what I've read, it's THICK white borders. They prefer the borders as thin as possible...

That's correct!
Well the Cthulhu decks by Albino Dragon do have thin white borders, just like the Aurum or Heraldry decks.

In most cases, this is accurate. But actually, I don't really care much for them being white either when the back doesn't fit having white borders, which this one doesn't. In my own opinion, of course.

I guess the way I look at it is if every deck had thin borders, my collection would be boring. Variety is the spice of life! MagikFingerz- I agree with you when you say the white border on this deck looks out of place. And there are some decks in my collection that I wish were a little different in subtle ways. But over all, I'm happy with the way all my different cards look on display. And if I need a deck with thin borders for fanning or thick for tricks, luckily I have 400+ decks to choose from!

I see what you mean, but as a cardist I would rather every deck had thin borders than thick borders given the choice.

Wow, that was diplomatic of us! If this discussion were on the discourse, I feel like one of us would be banned by now.
I kid, I kid

Same here. Those do look a bit thick. When I was doing my work with Bicycle they pushed back our art maybe 9-10 times due to our borders being thin. It took us forever to get to some kind of agreement. Though I am surprised to find out that many KS's haven't even talked to Bicycle when they start, maybe these guys ran into the same thing. The rep we talked to seemed to have their foot in the sand when it came to borders.
Wow I just saw the cost. That is high. Hmmm. Maybe just 1 then.

$15 for one deck and $12 if i take 8? plus ripping me of at shipping.
Seriously i know that the artist spends hours on the design and wants to have
his cut.But seriously the guys at 4pm designs offer you way more fair pricings with expensive bee casino stock and UV ink.For a lot less!
makes me sad to see albino dragon going for ,in my mind, overpriced deck.
no customer loyality here....well for this prices a pass from me.

Yeah, I like the deck but there is no way I will support prices like these. Not to mention the shipping.
Might get one on from Mike or someone else who brings them in, and it wouldn't surprise me if they're cheaper then.

We probably won't be able to work anything out with Erik on this deck. I tried working things out with his first deck and I could not, so I don't see it happening this time.
Thanks!

If he gave you similar prices to what we're getting, I understand completely

Add in that Grid 2.0 has the kickass UV ink, and you can clearly see who is ripping people off.

plus Bee Casino Stock on the Grid 2.0 in compare to standard Bicycle Stock
They justifiying the higher pricing by saying that the USPCC raised the prices for custom decks and that they will have a embossed tuck box.
Weird that 4PM is able to make lower prices and higher stock.

This pricing is so off, its a big PASS for me. The deck ain't that good! I hope it doesn't get funded so these people realize what the real market value for playing cards, even excellent ones, truely is. Every time a project like this gets funded, it just enables others to jack up prices.

With a goal of only $5,000... they can't help but get funded.

$15 a deck?? Damn. I thought I was doing a nice thing by setting mine to only $9 yet is still being slow to reaching its goal.
As a side note, no offense but those poker chip symbols look like a knock off of the Lantern symbols (green, red, black, white etc etc )

Hey guys,
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I've been traveling quite a bit since the Kickstarter launched. I wanted to address some of the concerns about the costs of the deck itself. $15 is a lot if we were going with the same printing materials and design that we had will the previous two decks.
However, on this one we wanted to try something that would really make these stand out and the we felt tied into the theme really well. So we're doing these in full color, with 2 metallic inks as well. The tuck box we're working on is embossed and has foil elements incorporated into it for that techy feel that lends itself so well to this genre. At the end of the day, the tuck box will run as much or more than the cards themselves which accounts for the jump in price.
The Necronomicon deck did something similar to this at a $14 price point before the Bicycle price increase and we've added a couple more costs on top of that. I know some of you won't care what the reasons are, but for those that do, we hope you don't think this is simply a blatant money grab to try and leverage our past success. There are some very real costs associated with doing the deck the way that we want to.
Alternatively, if we did a print run that used 'normal' tuck boxes that came in at a lower price point, is that something that would interest you?
On the shipping issues, those are fixed and we can't change those. Help us find a better way to ship and we'll be all over it but so far we haven't. We'd like to offer something like the Shipper Saving Program mentioned on this site if anyone would be interested in that to help defray their shipping costs on our various projects.
