Low-Poly Sharks!
It's shark week my dudes
This thread is mostly going to be a place to put our updates with our deck design, namely, our low-poly shark themed deck. We've already gotten a lot of work done so far, but we'd like it if you can tell us your thoughts about it! We also post these on our Twitter and Instagram so check those out!

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Love this idea and I love shark week! From previous low poly designs I have seen I don't think this is pushed far enough. The shark is too detailed to the point where the low poly shapes aren't distinguishable. Also, the water is inconsistent with half the water low poly then a large section of open space. The polygons in the open space are kind of floating on their own, so it looks odd.
Sorry for the critique, I just wanted to share my thoughts on a low poly design that is almost there. We love to see designs succeed here at UC, so be prepared for some opinionated nerds like myself.
Be sure to share your ideas for the tuck and the rest of the cards. This could be a lot of fun, especially if it's fully-custom!

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
I know we are often a bit off-topic (that is a far stretch ) but the new and custom section is mainly for finished decks. We have an extra section for drafts and decks that are currently "under construction" or in the making. This thread should be there.
On to the back design. Sharks are JAWSOME! With that said, I really like the chosen style, especially that it isn't pushed to far with the low poly. But I definetly would like to see more on the card back; e.g. a reef, some other fish maybe, a diver, or for some morbid fun a shipwrecked man/castaway, a life raft... something like that.

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
I think that this back is really fun! Along with some other suggestions above perhaps some sort of outlines may be nice around the shark and the dark blue ribbon.
This is a back definitely worth refining. I know you are in early stages, but if this becomes a reality at some point I urge you to make the rest of the deck really custom as well. Recolor standard courts aren't going to look good with this back.
Also, don't skimp on the tuck box quality and features. I think you have a winner here.

Cool! Is there a way to move this thread over to the other section, or do we have to copy everything over?shiroo56 wrote:I know we are often a bit off-topic (that is a far stretch ) but the new and custom section is mainly for finished decks. Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Alright, sorry for taking a while, but we went back to the drawing board (pretty literally) and made our polygon designs a bit more distinguishable. We're working on making the water surface brighter and the deeps darker, but for now, how does it look?

I like the second design much more and I did like the first design. I think you may be moving in the right direction.

You can't please everyone ... I like the first one better . I prefer the closer to 2D look over the more 3D one.

Hey, we drew our custom pips and indices! Please disregard the black lines around each polygon of our pips - we removed those lines for our actual card faces. But still, tell us what you think! Also, don't forget to follow us on Twitter and Instagram(@Unrivaleddecks for both sites), we're trying to be more active and post every Tuesday and Thursday!

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
I actually like the lines on the black pips. Perhaps some sort of blue line on the blue pips would be nice. Hard to say without seeing the non line pips, but I like the black ones.
For the indices, I think they fit the theme so far. I'm sure they could use some improvements but I am am far from disliking them.
Sorry, not much in the way of direction but I'm not a graphic artist and lack the vocabulary and vision to get my point across.
I like what I have seen so far. The courts and tuck could be a make or break though. Bring them on!

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Alright, so we're working on our jokers right now, and we'd like to know how you guys would prefer the 2 jokers (in a standard 54 card deck): one that is blue and one that is black, or both being the same color (either both blue or both black)? Sorry we haven't been uploading in a while, but we'd still like your input so that you can help us become successful! We'll show you them when they're done!

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Yes different colors. I'm still hoping you can get the courts taken care of before launch as fast not using basically repeating courts.

Sorry for not posting for a while, but here's a sampler of all of what our court cards are going to look like! We are considering redesigning some parts, mostly the shark's poses and positioning, but we'd like to hear what you think about it! Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Looks like it. 12 different sharks would be still way better, especially as a shark nerd knowing that there is such a huge variety of sharks out there, but I'll take it over repeating courts.

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
Although, I still feel 12 different sharks could have been possible and better, I think that this is still a much better solution rather than having the same courts just different crowns as before.

Re: Low-Poly Sharks!
12 sharks may have been possible, but to maintain consistency between the courts we've stuck with our selection of the three most iconic sharks. If we did 12 different sharks, it might be difficult to differentiate at a glance what court it may be and, similar to standard cards, the court cards are just variants of kings, queens, and jacks rather than 12 completely different royalty figures which could cause confusion. We had a live stream a while ago back on our instagram outlining and explaining the many difficulties or problems of having 12 individual species on each court card so while we do appreciate the input, please understand that we are not moving forward with that idea not because we're "lazy" (which we hope you don't think we are because we've been working very hard), but because there were difficulties we ran into when considering multiple designs.STLBluesNut wrote:Although, I still feel 12 different sharks could have been possible and better, I think that this is still a much better solution rather than having the same courts just different crowns as before.
