ACES: Playing Cards for Poker by Vanda
No longer a mystery, we've announced the pre-release of ACES: Playing Cards for Poker. These are 100% plastic, similar to KEM/Copag, but thicker stock than those decks and with a textured back that gives a much nicer tactile quality. These handle surprisingly well for a plastic deck...you'll have to touch them to see for yourself. More of a standard design (intended for game playing) with recolored bicycle courts. Custom pips/indexes and aces though, and a 4-color palette (as preferred by most poker players).
There will be a Kickstarter campaign coming soon for the official launch, but for now you can grab a deck from the initial limited run (these will be identical in quality to the official released decks). Find them here:

Hey guys,
I'll update this with more information as I reveal it, but for now I'll just leave you with this one photo that I posted earlier on instagram...

Is that a reflection or is that holo foil?

The silver is holographic foil, the pattern around it is black foil.

Thanks. I only asked because the left side of the silver foil portion I see blue in it. Thought perhaps it was holo foil for the silver.

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
Hey guys,
I'm working on the Kickstarter campaign setup for this deck and will share more info once it's finalized...
but I did want to mention that there will be a marked version of the ACES decks available in addition to the standard version. Attached is a side-by-side comparison of the standard back (left) with the back of one of the cards from the marked deck (right)—anyone want to guess how the marking system works? (I realize it's very difficult to tell from seeing a single card, but at least it gives you an idea of what to expect)

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
How will the marking work for the whole deck when the difference is one missing dot counting from the left of the secont horizental line? Or would there be more to come?

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
There are 6 dot positions in a 2x3 grid at the top left corner of the card. They make up a binary system (top row is suit indication, 2nd and 3rd rows indicate value). The beauty of this simple design is that the markings are very easy to see (even from a reasonable distance) if you know what to look for but virtually unnoticeable if you didn’t know they were there.

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
While a solid design, you've lost me right there:
Not even a Lotrek/Lorenzo/Jackson collaboration would make me by a plastic deck of cards.davegk wrote:These are 100% plastic

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
I think you'll be surprised by the feel of these...they are unlike other plastic decks out there which feel "plastic-y" and cheap.Harvonsgard wrote:While a solid design, you've lost me right there:Not even a Lotrek/Lorenzo/Jackson collaboration would make me by a plastic deck of cards.davegk wrote:These are 100% plastic
Also, attached is a more detailed outline of the marking system for the ACES marked decks...this could still be adjusted if there is a compelling reason to do so, but I think it makes sense...

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
Pretty cool marking system. However, it's not for us who have poor eyesight or crossed over to the more mature stage of life. The Mint 2 markings are hard to read at normal arms length for me even though it's 20% bigger than Mint 1. Still it's a lot better than the Madison Kittens deck markings! Epic fail there.

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
I don't normally like plastic decks. They just feel so artificial to me. However, with that being said these are the nicest plastic decks I have had. Granted, I have not owned many but these are superior. The tuck is sleek looking, and the cards are THICK. The thing I noticed most about the deck was how heavy it was. I was very surprised when I first held them in my hands, and not in a bad way. I wouldn't mind taking these to the beach. I don't know if I will ever buy another plastic deck, but I got rid of the others after seeing this one. I guess this will be THE plastic deck in my collection.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
I'm curious: why make a plastic deck, which is meant to be more durable, for heavy gameplay like poker etc. and then put a marking system, which is common for magic? Unless you like to cheat at cards

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
That's a fair point. Though he did state that both standard AND marked versions will be available. If the handling is as good as is claimed, I suppose the marked version could be used by magicians and would last much longer than a paper deck.shkorc wrote:I'm curious: why make a plastic deck, which is meant to be more durable, for heavy gameplay like poker etc. and then put a marking system, which is common for magic? The ones from their site handle about as good as any plastic after you start handling them.

Re: ACES: Playing Cards for Poker
ACES Red, $15.00
Finally, a deck of cards that's thoughtfully designed specifically for poker (and other card games). This 100% plastic deck is waterproof and durable, with a thicker stock than other popular plastic decks, and a textured finish on one side providing a great high-quality feel (unlike other plastic decks). It also features a 4-color design, as preferred by most online poker players, making flushes easier to spot.
The tuckbox features holographic foil printing both inside and out in addition to a black foil pattern covering the exterior of the box
