"We look at the present through a rear-view mirror; we walk backwards into the future."

I think this creator is being at least a little disingenuous about his inspiration for this deck. It appears to be an inferior remake of Immy Smith’s “Insecta Deck” (see link above) in almost every respect.
The design has none of the richness, detail or thematic authenticity of Insecta (Insecta's four suits each feature a different family of insects, for instance, while nothing about the types of bugs on Jewelry has been said). Watercolours lack the rich detail and colour of Immy’s work, and the back appears to amalgamate portions of several draft versions that were considered but eventually discarded by Insecta. This deck touts only 18 original illustrations while Insecta took an estimated 2,500 hours to produce individual drawings of every insect on every card (i.e.not copy, rotate, paste - so the 10 of diamonds alone, for example, has 10 unique drawings).
Insecta is the second KS deck successfully funded by Immy, while Jewelry is by a first timer. Even more telling, Insecta is being printed by Cartamundi, this is MPC, yet both are about the same price per deck.
Moreover, those lucky enough to have backed Insecta have been treated to regular and frequent KS Updates that are witty, intelligent, informative and worth the price of admission on their own.
If you like bugs, I suggest you don’t settle for a pale imitation: pre-order Insecta instead. There are even more creepie-crawlies available on “Cryptic Cards” (the prequel deck) if you just can’t wait until the September fulfilment date of Insecta.
And no, I have no connection with the other KS project other than as a backer – I just think it is a far superior deck on whose coat-tails this one is not fit to ride.
Just for the record, I agree that Immy Smith's deck is far superior on every level and deserves support as the work of a genuine artist and naturalist.
I really must stop looking at this project, because the more I read, the more I discover to dislike.
Jewelry Box’s KS tagline: “A highly detailed hand-drawn playing cards comes with colorful beetles in watercolor technique”
First line of introduction: “detailed hand-drawn poker of colorful beetles with watercolor technique in a standard deck size. “
Later on: “highly detailed hand-drawn card designs…”
Are they hand-drawn or are they painted in watercolour ? Is watercolour a medium that typically allows high detailing ? What is a “hand-drawn poker of colorful beetles” ?
Or is it phrased that way because it was cut and pasted from the KS introduction to Insecta “A highly detailed hand-drawn poker deck, …” ?
Just wanted to share my new kickstarter project which I launched some days ago. It's a highly detailed hand-drawn playing cards comes with colorful beetles in watercolor technique. Jewelry box idea came to me one day as I was playing cards with my friends, the idea of having my own deck, full of insects, a box full of beautiful small creatures painted by my own hands. Thus, I started sharing the idea with my friends, which was encouraged by them.
I started this project, hoping to share these lovely insects with the people who admire them as much as I do, and also the people who enjoy card games. If you like it, help us to fulfill our dream. Thank you :^)
