Tiny correction, you have to buy 12 recoloured checkerboards...

... or simply wait till 2020 when they are released.

What kind of strange emotion can be caused by a dot to be called "hideous"?

Huh? What is this? Glances at design. Shakes head in disbelief. Looks again. Yeah, that is what I thought I saw. Notes “Anyone “ and understanding dawns. Pass.

I had some fun on Reddit regarding A1WW and the checkerboard recoloring. I think it's appropriate here (sorry in advance if you are a fan of A1WW's designs or process):

I imagine a guy named Phil who works for Anyone WW. They are looking for ideas and he's pitching the latest concept for their next launch in June. He's nervous. This new concept is a design he has worked on for two years and he's finally getting the chance to share his vision with the rest of the group.

"Okay, Phil, what've you got for us?"

Phil's hand shook slightly as he moved his mouse slowly to a single red square, about 1/3 of the way up on the classic Anyone WW Black Checkerboard design. He clicked on the square and all time stopped in the room. All sense of understanding, of self, of the world, disappeared for a brief instant as the group stared at the bright yellow square that would change the world. The room was silent for an eternity, then the silence was broken by a hushed whisper.

"My God, Phil. You've done it."

Simon, Design Trend manager and father of two ornery boys, was in the back of the room, refilling a glass of water when his world was changed. His shoulder's shook with silent sobs.
"But why male models?"

If someone calls a dot "hideous", that seems pretty emotional to me.

Since criticism has to do, at least to a certain degree, with personal taste, yah, I would argue that criticism is emotional; to a certain degree. Plus I would argue that, "f&*k what is this?" isn't actual criticism. There is a fine line between actual criticism and an opinion.
Just to make this clear, this just my personal opinion. Nothing wrong with voicing the one or the other. Plus who gives a f&*k?

Yes, this picture of a deck of cards with a dot on it does elicit an emotional reaction for me. I cannot quite pinpoint it though.

I think it could be accurately portrayed by saying what the f#$k and a swift palm to the forehead.

I will never understand decks like this and the amount of people that go crazy for them. Again, just what the f@#k.

I mean, it's nothing spectacular but it is minimalist haha. It's alright imo, nothing great but if I RMB right, they're fairly cheap right?

Sarah Jessica Parker is also hideous. That's not an "emotional" opinion from me, either.

My personal artistic tastes are (typically) not personal. "What in the f&*k is this?" is just a question conveyed to the extreme, because it's extreme amateur hour to put a piece of non-artistic geometric BS on a deck of cards. Legitimate criticism. Like, "how/why do you even exist?", I would use to ask why a waste of life hasn't ended itself yet. Y'know?

An artistic taste of mine that is personal would be the use of gatos. I love those furry like f&*ks.

One more jab, then I will leave A1WW alone.

I finally figured out why they named the business Anyone and decided to make this:

It is so tempting, but there are folks who truly worship the brand. I think I've poked the hornet's nest enough here, but I might cave and post to Reddit later...

This might lose me some friends here  but I think the original Dots are a good design. It's very simple but it works, and it stands out. I'm not a fan of the Checkerboards, the Anyones, the flag decks... but the Dots are a design win in my book.

But they're still vastly overpriced - original NOC prices would be my choice

I think the re-colors are where I see the real joke. A simple, minimalist design is truly hard to pull off and they obviously know what they are doing. It's just entertaining from my point of view :)

I know exactly where this came from, but no, to tell critics to shut their mouth ON A PLAYING CARD FORUM is stupid. Not saying that his idea is stupid, but get a grip on what context is being used here: He speaks for the cardistry community, and if the cardists like that design, good for them. I know him and we're good on many terms.

But this is UC, a place where critique happens, either for sarcasm or for a good cause. This is a ground for card enthusiasts who focus more on art and craft and not so much on pretty flourishing skill. I personally don't go on IG to rant on Anyone or Fontaine, but UC is a free ground. So if you can't take it that people here are hating and criticizing certain decks that you like, and decide to criticize back for criticism's sake, just leave.

I typically strive for useful commentary when I critique a deck of cards. I will point out what I like and what could be improved in the hopes of sharing insight as a potential consumer.
I'll admit that I didn't offer anything constructive by poking fun at A1WW. I can't wrap my head around the excitement of a simple re-color, so I let my sarcastic humor run rampant. It might not have been completely fair but it's obviously a light-hearted jab. Judging by the IG post shared by shiroo, it seems like these jabs are being taken a bit too seriously.

It doesn't have to be divisive. Cardists stand here. Collectors, stand over there. No. Everyone has different tastes and if everyone shared the same taste, things would be pretty boring pretty quick. Also, if everyone had the same critiques, there would be no growth. Maybe my response to A1's decks is quietly shared by others and they feel like they aren't taking crazy pills and we can share a laugh.

Teddy is absolutely right that UC is a place for critique, good or bad. I do feel bad I didn't offer anything useful in my critique but the mystery IG response wipes away any remorse I once had. There's no need for detractors to shut their mouths - you just need to move on! You have plenty of followers.

Who posted that, and on what platform? I will go out of my way to berate that person for being a little b^&*h.

Simple s&*tty designs merit criticism for the most simple "design change" of modifying a base color. It's the laziest s&*t you can do to an already lazy, garbage, design.

You wanna design a piece of s&*t? Go ahead? You wanna recolor it and advertise it? F&*k off.

I find the "mediocre-to-poor taste" comment quite hilarious, considering the deck is the literal "basic bitch" of playing cards. May wanna take a look in the mirror and realize that you lack any "taste" at all (whoever the loser OP is of that graphic).

Not every deck deserves a damn participation medal, either. "It's designed for yadda yadda yadda" my ass. That type of commentary is for losers who think "everyone can get along". News flash: We can't. Personalities clash, and there are people who literally disagree about everything. I could take a dump on a sheet of card stock and that would be more effort put into the design than this crap.

You know after reflecting on the criticism we have on this deck. I have relooked at this deck and it’s design. Yep, it is still plain bad, even for cardistry. There are so many great and good cardistry decks. This one, no. I wish I could give more tips, but there is nowhere to start, other than just start over completely. I wish I could be positive, but I can’t with this deck.
