Beautiful Bath Playing Cards for EPCS' 35th Anniversary

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

English Playing Card Society 35th

Congratulations EPCS on 35th Anniversary. At the meeting this Saturday in Bath, the Club produced this amazing Bath related deck: a repro of Carl Gerich Handmade 'Beautiful Bath'. Partly in honour and fond memory of Major Donald Welsh, EPCS founder.

The Georgian houses: laser cut wooden boxes - fantastic!
The original deck is from 1996 and is limited to just "about 30 decks", designed by Karl Gerich. You can find information and pictures of the original World of Playing Cards LINK HERE. This new print is limited to just 150 decks, with about a 100 or so remaining. And to clarify, Bath means the city of Bath of in this case :D

Oh and if you notice the house in the picture? That is the wooden box this deck come in! :o

Full credit to Amy on letting me know about these, she should be back here with us tomorrow after being missing some days due to being sick.

I shall take some to Catania, but only a few. I won't have room for many. To be sure please reserve one, email secretary@epcs.org

Re: Beautiful Bath Playing Cards for EPCS' 35th Anniversary

I *might* be goin' to the IPCS meet in Catania this year - I'm still planning out the details exactly as I'd love to be able to travel my way through Italy for a couple weeks before heading down but it *is* still quite far from now (end of September). So, if anyone is not able to get their hands on a deck by then, feel free to let me know and I'll keep ya posted if I'mma definitely be there or not and maybe could pick up one or a few if I'm able to...

But to be clear, I'm only offering this as a contingency plan in the case that those who are seriously interested in getting one of these decks are not able to through other means, so please don't automatically rely on me - sorry, but I just can't say with 100% certainity at this time if I'll be able to come through even though I'd love to be able to... it just depends on other, personal and financial factors that just can't be determined right now in for sure being able to commit. Just putting the possibility out there as a last resort offer if it happens to works out :)

Btw, thanks Roope for posting! :D

Any idea how much it's going to be sold for? Doesn't look cheap, but I'm in if price is within reason.

The Secretary got back to me today:

"Thanks very much for your enquiry. Yes, they are indeed available to purchase. All the 150 Decks have been printed, but the Bath Town House plywood boxes are being made in batches. The first 50 sold out at our 35th Anniversary Meeting, and I am waiting for the second batch. These are flat-packed and A4 size.
50 were sold at the meeting, and I expect 50 more to be sold to members who could not attend, leaving just 50 of the limited edition available outside the Society.
The price for non-members is now £25 plus the posting cost, but if they sell as well as it seems they may, the last few will be £35."

I'll be sending a follow-up email arranging the purchase, so I'll keep you posted.

Oh so neat. I just sent an email myself. Hope one is still available. I loved visiting Bath a few times when I lived in London. Bath was one of my favorite English cities.

They will probably sell out of the ones available to the public because everyone here is ordering one. Maybe we should tell the Secretary that Roope and Aardvarkgod sent us and she should give them a commission...or a free deck :ugdance:

The sad thing is...I haven't received any follow-ups on my recent email (asking about payment options, storefront). Are y'all getting actual confirmation emails from the secretary, or has any one actually paid for the cards yet? Getting a little nervous here...

I just sent my payment in, so I am figuring I am good. Barney has been really quick at responding. I think just those of us here trying to get the extra decks is putting a run on the remaining supplies, but it looks like we should be good if we get it done quickly. This will be a nice interesting deck to add.

Problem: I love these. I've also got a friend who would love these, but given the very limited status (and I might be too late anyway) it feels rude to enquire about reserving more than one deck.

Barney sent me a paypal invoice with the total + shipping and confirmed when payment was recieved; he stated on Monday that he'll update me when the deck is on it's way which should "hopefully (be) by the end of the week, but that is not definite" and is using the address I have linked to my paypal. I've exchanged a few emails with him and he's been pretty responsive so far :ucstar: :ucstar: :ucstar: :ucstar: :ucstar:

For those concerned about not yet receiving word back, I'd say give it a day or so... he also didn't respond to me during the weekend and instead got back to me first thing on Monday.
