Re: Vittoria - New Nicolai Aaroe Deck
Very nice looking deck but, alas, he went with NPCC yet again. That said, he mentioned their new finish - wonder if that is the same one that they used in the Mongolian decks.

I wonder if shipped in protective boxes means that it has a tuck case.

They're nice, but way too similar to his previous decks (which I backed) for me to bother.

I'm in for this, but I hope he fixes that queen of spades. Looks like her hand melts into a crystal ball and the split between the 2 queen is a straight line cut and paste that doesn't line up or blend together.
Edit- he said it would be tweaked before production.

How does the German Premium Casino Linen, 310g feel from npcc? Is it alright?

Oh man, I literally just bought the Hunters of York pair and now I see it can be added on at a discount x_x. I do like the style of this series, might be down for a pair of the new ones.

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
Nicolai often includes his earlier decks if he still has some in stock on his Kickstarter campaigns. I really like Nicolai's artwork, and this is no exception. I sure wish he would print with Cartamundi, but I am in again for this campaign. I will not be in for a brick or anything, but likely one or two pairs.

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
Usually love his work, but like Hunters I likely won't be backing this. I just can't for the life of me like his coloured artwork. A perfect example of why can be found in this image from the campaign:
On the left, gorgeous, sharp, detailed, clear. The kind of artwork to get me hot and bothered. On the right, soft, muddled, washed out, clearly looks like it's been coloured in. The kind of art you might find from a middle-of-the-road deviantart user. I would kill for black & white versions of these, alongside the colour versions if need be, surely these campaigns are successful enough to carry 4 decks? A guy can dream -

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
So, do these not evoke, very strongly, a sense of Venexiana?
I love Venexiana. Esp. the dark decks, masked and revealed. Nicolai's art is good, and while this deck strongly evokes Venexiana, it's still got his own personal touch.
That said, I'd like confirmation that NPCC's handling has gotten better before I'd likely back a project like this...

For what is worth, I have their Mongol Empire decks, and although I'm not a cardist (not even remotely), I found they fanned way better than any other previous NPCC decks.

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
That is my feeling as well but it looks like NPCC stock can differ from one deck to the other as the other deck (the “Don’t kill the messenger” one) handles way worse.Gonzalo wrote:rousselle wrote:That said, I'd like confirmation that NPCC's handling has gotten better before I'd likely back a project like this...

The Mongol Empire fans great +1, would recommend if the finish is the same

Few irons in the fire RN, but I'm an unabashed fan of Nicolai's work. A bit on the expensive side for me, but that's purely down to add-ons.

Nicolai may be the most skilled illustrator doing cards right now. If he'd switch to Cartamundi I'd go from backing a few decks at a time to buying bricks.

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
In terms of intricate artwork printing, NPCC is a good printer with a good bargain for creators; handling wise it realy depends. Since Nicolai's decks rely heavily on the beauty, and also the fact that he doesn't accumulate as much backers as Lorenzo, Gio, Jackson, (or TGW?! ), it's reasonable why he chooses NPCC as first priority.

Just seeing the renders and knowing NPCC's record with tuck boxes and I can already tell that those tucks are going to be absolutely sick af.
Looks amazing. I'm not a huge fan of the back design on the Bauta Edition. But the courts, Aces, pips... It's all spectacular!

So, I had no idea that they’re all part of his “Florus Drama” which explains the similarities.Timmargh wrote:They're nice, but way too similar to his previous decks (which I backed) for me to bother.

I think it's location too. He's Scandinavian so NPCC is closer to him for easier delivery.Decknowledgy wrote:In terms of intricate artwork printing, NPCC is a good printer with a good bargain for creators; handling wise it realy depends. Got my cards today. The cards are up to Nicolai's usual high standards. The backs are absolutely gorgeous, and the tuck is one of the best I have ever seen....its so silky...
I do have a question tho. This says it is Vol. 2 of Florus Drama, what is the first volume? Additionally I also got the Infiniti and Infernum, which state they are part of a 3 volume set, what are the other 2 volumes?

Re: Vittoria Playing Cards by Nicolai Aarøe / Live KS
Mine arrived yesterday. I got the Vittoria pair, Culminus pair, and the Hunters of York pair. The Hunters of York decks are Florus Drama Volume 1. As for the Culminus set, they are Volume 3 of Light vs. Darkness. Indictus is Volume 1 from that set and Dominus is Volume 2.macstrat wrote:Got my cards today.
