Boxing Greats!

Unread post by KickarseCards »

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of launching a brand new card deck with a limited run of just 900 decks!

The inspiration to create the set came from some of the super fights that took place in 2017 and the rebirth of interest in the sport that came with it. In this set we bring together the boxers we believe have had the greatest impact on the sport, this can be in the form of their incredible fight records, the amazing opponents they have fought and defeated or the cultural impact they have made.

I love the concept and the illustrations are pretty fantastic. However, I think the homage to the boxing greats is overshadowed by your brand placement. The tuck box reads as KICKARSECARDS BOXING GREATS when I feel it should be the other way around. Then that message is repeated for the simple back design. Why not have the back design be a collage of all the illustrations? Or a simple silhouette of a boxer punching?

I get that brand awareness is crucial, but the purpose of your deck doesn't come across as genuine, in my opinion. I know you didn't explicitly ask for feedback, but I can't help it. You're posting on UC :D. That being said, I do like the deck. I just think it should be more about the subject matter than the creator. If you do it right, people will know and they will become followers. Good luck with your launch and future projects!
"But why male models?"

Hmmm... Firstly, I think there is way too much negative space on card faces. Secondly, as others mentioned, the back needs some serious work. Last but not least, I am not sure how you are dealing with IP issues here since I am sure Manny, Roy and the others would have something to say about those.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback.

This is our very first set of cards and I fully take on board your comments. Perhaps in future decks we should look to minimise the branding on the deck.

I really appreciate the feedback so if anyone has more it would be appreciated.

I think a boxing themed deck would be cool. I like the hanging gloves on the tuck. If those were better incorporated the tuck would be great, but build around those. My number one criticism is to make the deck playable. As it is now, just slapping some faces on 52 cards doesn't make this a deck of cards. Stick to the basics- spot cards have pips, use them and just put the faces on the courts. I'd also like to see them be two-way but not just a lazy line through the middle or something like that. Almost if not as important is the back- it currently looks like a crappy, forgettable gift shop back. Incorporate a boxing themed design back there!
But before taking any of this advise I implore you to research the IP issues..
