Cardistry deck by Montenzi / April Fools'

Unread post by montenzi »

Hi!

I'll launch this Kickstarter campaign on April 1st, 7pm EDT.

Art and idea by Vladimir Mayakovsky: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Mayakovsky

The design is ready but will be available on Kickstarter page only.

Here is a sketch and translation:

"There are no, nor have there ever been,
better pacifiers.
I am ready to suck until I am old (literally, "until old years").
Sold everywhere.
Rubber trust."

I took the translation from this book: "Russian, Book 2: Russian Through Propaganda By Mark Pettus"

I am thinking of using "cards" vs "pacifiers" and "play/shuffle" vs "suck" in English version. Just need to make sentences shorter.

Need more pics, or else the tuck keeps reminding me of Natalia Silva......

I like avant-garde and futurism movement as the style, and mainly how artists used this style in typography/posters/advertising. It's incredible!

meeee tooo!! :ugdance:

The style is retro-cool and very fitting for a deck aimed at cardistry - knowing you & your work, would it be safe to assume custom courts???

I think it's safe to assume about 37 renditions of custom courts.

My first read of that was "But then, I was a Russian and Soviet SPY..."
"I have no response to that."

That's an interesting major, was it like a history/sociology specialization?

I think Montenzi could do something wicked with this type of deck. It'd be cool to just keep the Cyrillic, though.

a. For sure! b. Custom courts!!! c. Cyrillic - yes

The quote from their Futurist manifesto (1912):

"And if for the time being the filthy stigmas of your “common sense” and “good taste” are still present in our lines, these same lines for the first time already glimmer with the Summer Lightning of the New Coming Beauty of the Self-sufficient (self-centered) Word."

p.s. I prefer to use "World" instead of "Word".

But now I'd like to show some back designs. They will not be used in this project

I am planning to produce two editions, so they are 2nd edition sketches.

Since this is a cardistry deck I understand the choice for full-bleed backs even though I don't really like them. But the colors are awesome, as with all Montenzi decks. Looking forward to seeing the actual backs!

"The game" is not over...

When I have time to revisit this project, I'll remove "April First" text from the back. After that, everything is possible!
