Testament Playing Cards live on Kickstarter

I realize the theme may not be the most popular these days but I think the art is very good. Especially on the art deck with a 2 layer tuck. I went in for the EB pair. Prices aren't bad and great art imo.

The artwork is pretty rad for these, I like this a lot better than the Dragon Back campaign actually.

Also, interesting choice, to go with one NPCC and USPCC printed deck. Something seems off about the tuck design though, can't put my finger on it.

After seeing the artwork on the Mongol Empire, I'd say that's a great decision to go with NPCC for the art edition. A set for me!! And since the creator doesn't seem to have an Instagram account set up for this deck, I'm just going to go on and promote for him.

Definitely intriguing and incredible artwork. Considering the theme of the deck, do you all find this a bit...provocative? I'm not conservative when it comes to art but it seems to clash a bit with the source material in a way. Just curious. I only bring this up because I saw the thread and thought this could be a great deck of cards for my in-laws! Then I saw the art and thought...nope. They would not appreciate it as much as I do, for sure :)

It is very good artwork, but I guess I am not wild about mixing my religion and playing cards. Wish the creator luck though with the deck.

I think the only 2 cards that would be provocative may be the jokers from a visual standpoint. Adam and Eve were naked in the garden until they ate the fruit and covered up. Delilah was a temptress, so her depiction may be considered appropriate.

The other thing that may be considered odd is having a Biblical theme on a medium that is widely used for gambling, but not exclusively, so its debatable.

For as many people that aren't religious or believers, then this should be no different than the depiction of Norse or Egyptian or Roman gods. I have never seen anyone take issue with Gio's decks for religious figures showing skin.

The ones I find provocative are Cain and the two jokers, the others fit with the source material (I'm a biblical major). And yes, you could say that because this is my major I'm biased a bit in my likings, but considering artwork I try to be as unbiased as possible. So my verdict is that this type of Christian art is not uncommon where you'll find similar artwork in Children's biblical illustrations and Sunday schools. However, this design is more crisp and delicate, and no one has thought about producing it on a deck of cards, which could work handily as visual aids for storytelling (especially the art edition). So I'm agreeing with STLBluesNut here

On the campaign page he did stress this:
"I find myself regularly backing projects and seeking out designs which reflect some of the great works of fiction from history, of literature and art. ... Yet not the characters from the Bible? Great stories such as Jonah and the Great Fish (whale), Sampson and Delilah, The many amazing stories of Moses - there are too many characters to consider and some amazing and defining stories which have shaped our lives whether Christian or not. ...
With a huge caveat, each deck bears the seal; 'On opening this deck, I agree to the condition of sale that the cards may not be used for gambling purposes'. This is an art deck for the love of cards and the art from the bible, not for a gambling aid."

This is classic. I now wish I should have given a similar disclaimer or note on the kickstarter page for the first GPCC deck, Divine Art. That could have saved me a few threatening mails and messages that landed in my inbox due to a few people taking objection on displaying Hindu deities on playing cards.

Anyways, you learn from such instances for sure. Is it just me or if intolerance is really increasing in the society looking at such notes coming from designers.

Coming from religious & theological studies, yeah... intolerance is definitely increasing. Mind here, I'm not the kind of person who goes on the mission of spreading gospel on the streets and rarely share my religious beliefs with non-believers. But even by the slightest mention of any religious terms and jargons people get offended and become indifferent very quickly, tossing their heads and giving a "smh :? " expression. This is all inevitable after ISIS, (Tele-)Evangelism in the States, China cracking down on churches and mosques, and the very recent shooting in Christchurh, NZ. So yeah, the majority of people want NO religious entanglements with their identity and reputation.

I was in on the first campaign but with the change of printer (to WJPCC ) in the relaunch, I'm out. Looks like it's well on its way to funding, though.

I've heard that Satan is the best friend the church has ever had, what with keeping them in business all these years, but I have never seen it taken literally.
