Hi guys! I was going to wait a while before posting this but you've all been so friendly and positive that I thought I'd dive right in.
I come from more of a card magic/collectors background and am here to explore the community and learn a bit about cardistry. I'm pleasantly surprised to see that there's a big custom deck community here too that I'm sure to stick around for.
Which brings me to my question - I'm about to start my second Kickstarter project. We successfully funded a deck of cards for teaching languages last year, and now want to combine what we learnt to design something truly beautiful for a more traditional purpose - card games and card magic. Those are my passions after all and we're really keen to expand into this world that we love so much.
It's early days, but for my rewards I'm thinking of offering something for each type of collectors. The magicians will get a practical prop connected with the theme of the cards, whilst the gamblers will get a custom dealer button for poker. The collectors and cartomancers will hopefully be interested in a custom leather card case or something similar.
Which brings me to the cardists. What would you like to see as a cardistry specific reward? All I can think of is a video download of a unique cardistry flourish but I'd need to find a creator and compensate accordingly. What other things could fit nicely?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Ideas for a Kickstarter Reward
As a collector, of cards, I would just urge you to have a tier that is the card deck(s) only. It is very frustrating for a campaign to offer a deck only in combination with some sort of extra.
The price then becomes too high for what I want to purchase, which is the deck of cards. To date, I have not purchased one extra such as a coin or fancy box.

Since some cardists can really beat the heck outta their cards in the practice of refining their skills causing 'em to wear out at a much faster rate overall than for those that use the cards in gameplay or collectors that hardly seem to use them at all, perhaps offering a deck protector or a card clip would be useful accessory in protecting & combating wear & tear as it would provide a way to keep the deck & cards in better condition and extend their life overall.

That's a great idea! Has any had any experience with the Make Playing Cards custom card clips? Lots of magicians swear by Joe Porper's and nothing else, but I have a third party one (not MPC) that does the trick. And it'll be cheaper than a Porper one for the kickstarter backers so it could be a nice idea.PipChick wrote:Since some cardists can really beat the heck outta their cards in the practice of refining their skills causing 'em to wear out at a much faster rate overall than for those that use the cards in gameplay or collectors that hardly seem to use them at all, perhaps offering a deck protector or a card clip would be useful accessory in protecting & combating wear & tear as it would provide a way to keep the deck & cards in better condition and extend their life overall.

Have people been doing that? Oh dear. No, absolutely a 1 deck RRP reward and probably a limited early bird discount for 1 deck too. I wasn't too interested in all the extra rewards but I thought of a really good idea for the magicians and then wanted something for everyone.STLBluesNut wrote:As a collector, of cards, I would just urge you to have a tier that is the card deck(s) only. +1....
Keep it simple, and if it your first KS, then make it uncomplicated by only offering the decks.
I added this book to the current Kickstarter (A Motley Pack), and looking at the funding rate, I think I should have kept it as a stretch goal only. The book is going to be awesome for sure, I don't think anyone has ever seen a dramatic fiction solely revolving around a pack of 40 transformed cards.
It is still tough for me, not everyone appreciates a transformation deck. It is for serious collectors only who appreciate art while not having any kind of bias whatsoever.
Anyways, I have a serious feeling that taking the book out as a stretch goal would have worked better. We could have even be funded by now. You won't get a chance after the kickstarter is live. So, it is better you think through all addons for a kickstarter reward because any additional reward would increase your funding goal. Hope that helps.

You're right. This year I've been sure to choose things that either have no minimum order restrictions (so i'm not screwed if one guy backs that reward and I'm stuck with 50 of them and the bill) or have cheap enough costs for single orders.guru wrote:STLBluesNut wrote:As a collector, of cards, I would just urge you to have a tier that is the card deck(s) only. Basically I've only had to add €500 to the goal to cover rewards as the others don't cost anything if no-one backs them.
It's my second KS (different product though) and in the first one we had this idea of a card display box for buying two decks. No-one was going for it and I realised I'd be out £200 for a minimum order if only one guy backed it and paid £10 for the box. So we pulled it. But you're right - as soon as you have a backer you can't pull the reward, so it's not worth the risk.
On another note I reckon you'll get funded, there's plenty of time left
