Why would you create or buy this deck..?

Not exactly sure how this supports fighting human trafficking.
"CHANGE
LIVES.
END
SLAVERY."
?????
Doesn't make any sense. Vague.
I'm all for a good cause when it's transparent exactly how the cause is being supported.

In the description they say all proceeds, after kickstarter fees, production & shipping, will go to the charity Hope For Justice which fights against human trafficking. Though considering how slim playing card margins are even with successful campaigns, I'm not sure a couple hundred bucks will be all that helpful...

Re: Mirz Playing Cards First Edition: Live on KS
Okay. I skipped over that. All I read was later in the campaign, something along the lines of, "travel to spread the word of human trafficking". Which, to me, isn't convincing.Adonael wrote:In the description they say all proceeds, after kickstarter fees, production & shipping, will go to the charity Hope For Justice which fights against human trafficking. So it's good that there's transparency. As you've said, though, they may only have a couple hundred bucks left over to donate...

Re: Mirz Playing Cards First Edition: Live on KS
I put a reminder on this but it's probably not for me. The price isn't too bad but the basically standard courts are a killer for me. It may be for a good cause but I buy playing cards for the playing cards, not to help charities.
I'll mull this over and take a few more looks. I like the tuck though. The cards backs are a logo pasted twice which I generally despise. Idk, maybe the good cause and decent price will sway me in the end.

Yeah, I'm not fooled into thinking that buying crap online is actually helping make the world a better place. Just a reminder for people who actually do care: donating money or time directly - to a well-researched organization that you feel confident is both sincere and effective in their efforts - is about 10,000x better than buying some shit from someone who promises to do good on your behalf.
"Buy my cards to end slavery" is transparent virtue signalling that, at the very minimum, suggests zero modesty. A challenge to the creator: donate your proceeds without telling anyone what you did. Ever. Not even to defend yourself as a genuinely generous person. That takes a good deal more character than polishing up the ol' good guy badge in your opening pitch.

Re: Mirz Playing Cards First Edition: Live on KS
I’m not sure they’re planning on donating the margins of this campaign, I think they mean they’re planning to donate the proceeds of any decks sold after the Kickstarter campaign itself, via their website (or wherever). From the campaign: “100% of Kickstarter campaign funds will go to produce as many MIRZ decks as possible. AFTER KICKSTARTER, 100% of proceeds will go to fight human trafficking.”Adonael wrote:In the description they say all proceeds, after kickstarter fees, production & shipping, will go to the charity Hope For Justice which fights against human trafficking. Props for trying to raise awareness for a cause I guess, but as a custom deck of cards this leaves much to be desired. I’m especially not fond of their rationale for blurring the standard queens - obviously, don’t endanger others’ lives, but if you really wanted custom courts you could surely come up with something else on-theme?
