How very nice of them. $90.00, and they are cheaper to make than a $7.00 deck of cards. How very nice of them.
Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
You're right! How dare they try and make money, they should be doing this for exactly what they were charged from Bicycle! This is not fair, we deserve a cheaper collectors item! How dare they, what gives them the right to run the most successful card/magic site on the web as they see fit?jriffel wrote:How very nice of them. $90.00, and they are cheaper to make than a $7.00 deck of cards. Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
Passing on this, uncut sheets are a major rip-off in my humble opinion anyways. The only possible exception was the deal E had for the holidays where if you bought one Viper uncut (for only $20), you got a second for free. $10 a sheet, now that ain't bad.

Aaahh Russell, You are quite correct that popular sites ( and all sellers for that matter) may charge whatever they want. I'm not stopping anyone from purchasing one (or many) of these wonderful uncuts. I am commenting on the profit margin for this item. As is my right on this forum and in America. It is also your right to be incensed at my pointing out an obvious price gouging.Russell wrote:You're right! Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
hell. yeah.
When the Aristocrat reprints came out I called up USPCC to get pricing. The uncuts were $3.
As has been posted, nobody wants to deny the good people of commerceville a healthy profit. I think it's the comic-book Scrooge McDuck profit that people are offended by.
"Before receiving shipment of the decks, we had the over-run of sheets pulled off the presses and shipped to us separately as staff mementos, ensuring that exactly 5000 decks were created."
What was the overrun? 25? 100? 1000?? Later they say "We only have limited numbers of each design left - some as few as 25 sheets, some never to be printed again." They want you to make the connection there are only 25, but that's probably an underestimate.
Anyways, UtterFool is not so Utterly a Fool on this one. I also regret joining this traveshamockery of a "club". Will not be re-upping.

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
I don't collect or sell uncut sheets at the moment. They are too hard to keep long term to sell and even harder to ship for that matter, without them getting damaged. Maybe some day that will change, but for right now uncut sheets are a pass for me. With that being said, I don't think you can look at just the price they pay for the sheet. I think you are looking at the rarity of it. As an example, the Pedale deck was printed in a quantity of at least 10,000 decks and his cost was probably around $1.56 per deck to have USPCC produce them. He charged $15.00 per deck and when you compare it to an uncut sheet that has say, 100 produced (which is about a 1,000 times rarer), then the price does not look so out of line.
I think it comes down to what you want to collect and what you think they are worth. I would definitely consider uncut sheets more of a luxury collectible than a must have.
Thanks!

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
Since they don't specify how many sheets are available, I'm guessing they have a lot. I'm passing on these.

Some points of clarification:
~ The link that CBJ posted was before we have announced an official release. CBJ doesn't speak for Ellusionist, so he isn't authorized to announce that the sale of the sheets is open. Black Club members will absolutely get what they paid for: They will have 24 hours of advanced opportunity to purchase these sheets before everyone else. That link has been adjusted so that no one can purchase the sheets.
~ Whether you think the sheet is a collectible, or an overpriced ripoff, we respect your opinion and thank you for writing it. This thread is full of criticism, not flaming, and the former helps us so much more than the latter. It is also your opinion whether you believe the information in the description and why we are now making these available. One of the things we've found about our customers is that they appreciate honesty. We have been incredibly open about deck numbers in the past -- I'd argue that our honesty has helped set the standard for playing card rarity. Honesty has been a successful business model for us.

I also agree with you on that, although I think they wouldn't really ever sell out if the uncuts were exclusively for Black Club members (unless they were numbered and really scarse).UtterFool wrote:Again not an exclusive to black club members

Despite of what happened to the hyped GA uncuts, I think the demand for uncuts in general is going down these days. It's damn expensive to follow up and keep buying every interesting release, specially when you consider the current prolific market.

Joe,
I didn't mean to offend by posting the link. I had figured out the link fairly easily, so I thought I would let fellow members know.
In the future if I stumble across something like this, I will shoot you a message to get the green light.
Sorry about that bud,
Jay

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
In all seriousness, Jay, you have nothing to apologize for, and I'm not mad at you. It was just a necessity to note that you posting that link did not count as our official release. It wasn't intended to be live yet and has since been taken down. Also, we are taking steps to make sure this sort of leak doesn't happen again in order to ensure that Black Club members get the true window we promised them. No worries, brothaman.

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
If the price is $90 I can respect that. It's a nice deterrent against people that swarm in to buy the sheet for say $30 and then slap on a 500% resale price.
Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
I agree with Hikeeba about this. A lot of people received damaged uncut sheets.hikeeba wrote:When you send these out, can you get 3x3x20 tubes instead of 2x2x30? Just a thought.....

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
CCC only uses 3x3x24 tubes for this very reason. The 3" tubes only cost $.10 more than the 2" ones and they are much better for two reasons...
1. You can roll the uncut a little smaller than the diameter, so if there are some bumps and bends in the tube the uncut has room to move and doesn't get bent.
2. the 2" tubes make you roll the uncut so tight that they are impossible to unroll without creasing or having waves in it.
Collectors spend a lot of money on these items, as a business owner it only makes sense to spend the $.10 more to make a happy customer.
D&D have the best tubes I have ever seen. 5" double walled telescoping tubes with binded metal ends. These things are awesome, and virtually crush-proof.

Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
Straight from my boss' mouth: Brad Christian said the uncut sheets, from now on, will be mailed in the three-inch tubes. We thought the two-inch tubes would work out better, but they have not treated the sheets well. We've seen our share of returns on them, and we're disgusted enough to go back to the three-inch ones. Thanks for your feedback and response on this matter, gang.

Did you contact them about a swap or refund? Tiny little bends on the edges are nearly impossible to avoid. Obviously, if it looked like the above Gold Arcane. that is a big problem not a tiny one!Strag wrote:Shame that my two uncuts that cost over $200 were damaged because of your desire to save a few pennies. Re: Red Artifice Uncut Sheets
Even at our volume, saving 10 cents was NOT the reason we tried the two-inch tubes. We've heard feedback before about the three-inch tubes being too bulky, so we gave the slimmer tubes a shot. They didn't work, so we won't use them again. As for your sheets, I hope you've already contacted customer service about them. If your sheets were damaged because of those tubes, we'll make things right. If you haven't already, go to http://www.ellusionist.com/contacts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to speak with customer service.Strag wrote:Shame that my two uncuts that cost over $200 were damaged because of your desire to save a few pennies.
