Sounds like two very good moves, E-Og! :D

Let us know what the Felt Folks say.

Old plan / blueprint chests seem to be a great storage solution if you have the room. They are huge and have lots of fairly shallow drawers - great for face up display.

This one's been repurposed as a glass topped coffee table:

It'd look fantastic with decks lined up under the glass... if only my living room wasn't the size of a postage stamp. :(

Looks nice, Joe.

But at more than $700?

Even if I had room enough for it, I'd pass.

It is a bit expensive - you can pick up unmodified ones for half the price - would make a good project!

With only one functioning hand, "project" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Ah yes sorry - I realised that as I wrote... but it was meant in a general sense :)

So I've been playing with modding the wooden case a bit - the fit was ok but the decks tended to slide around on the cloth lining the bottom.

1. Strip out the cloth
2. Line with sticky back cork.

3. Line the edges with neoprene strips. Also sticky back. Thick enough to cushion everything nicely, but shallow enough to allow easy access.
4. Add decks!

Some very good ideas in this thread. I'm in the process of designing and building my display area, and while I'm going the route of hinged display frames for the more prestigious decks, I'm considering these right below them on the same wall for storage (x2).

A bit pricey and no glass display top (That would have been killer) but I think they'll work nicely. I think I'm going to replace the casters with some small feet also.

Very nice Sparkz, is that a faux leather type finish?

LOL, no nothing that exotic. Just your basic Ikea veneer finish on press board.

I like the look, thanks for posting it!

Some questions, though:
  1. What are the dimensions (Height/Width/Depth)...
    • ...of the unit?
    • ...of each drawer?
  2. Approximately how many decks fit in each drawer?
  3. What is "pricey" (it's a pretty subjective term)?
  4. You mention the "Ikea finish" Is it an Ikea item, then?
Thanks,

-RSL

One concern I have for something like this is that I fear it would make it awfully easy/tempting for a thief to make off with your entire collection (although replacing the casters with feet would ameliorate that somewhat).

This thread has been dormant for 10yrs but seems to be the best place for this

I have a somewhat minimalist set up for my deck storage but it works for me
AND I found another benefit this week when we were told to evacuate
- it is easy to pack and go in a hurry :D

I think they are called desktop filing cabinets - I also have a 10 drawer free standing one that has casters (that I use for something else)
With 2 layers each drawer can hold 26 decks face up (I buy quite a lot of pairs so that works well for me and I keep my own spreadsheet db to index them)

Never would have guessed that you'd have so many Honeybee decks...

Looks like a very efficient storage system! :D
