I'd also love to see a coin.
But maybe not too big. 1 1/2 inch diameter, max :)

These look very nice. I would agree 1 LE deck the opposite color would be a good idea.

I'm "All In"! Are we getting close, Rick? I know I signed up for a shot across the bow before you post on KS, but - ready to "put my money where my mouth is", as they say.

Yes, do tell when your ETA is cos I definitely don't want to go head to head with you. You do have something special with the "The Rouen Pattern" I would rather wait when there are less Kickstarters in Jan-March and know what the actual shipping cost are from the USPS. Have you considered using something like the Jackson Robinson's calculator? http://sherlock.futski.com I think he set the standard for Kickstarters using add ons. It saves lots of time on the comment section. You don't have to calculate add ons for confused backers. Consider it...

Jackson's Q&A 'Crew' member "Futski" wrote that, but I suppose you could inquire of him whether he might consider doing it, Rick. After all, I did see that Jackson both pledged and left a nice "hello" in the comments section.

Rick, maybe you could work something out with your buddies at LoopCuts here in South Carolina to do fulfillment in the states? And I'd be happy to add more NZD to my All Blacks jersey stack. ;-) (New Zeeland's National rugby team for those tilting their heads)

Sprouts, are you almost ready to run? Great, well I'd be happy to campaign alongside you. Yes a calculator was something I was considering, with a day job I'll find it hard to answer questions. Shipping I have sorted, I want to keep things tight and professional so have experienced shipping companies lined up.

I'm working really hard to finalise dates, but I still have a few things to tidy up. Two to three weeks away at this point, I'll let you know when I'm set to go. Thanks for the feedback guys! That's a small coin..

No, No, No with you I would rather stagger in behind or in front of you. If I do it before you, I'll give you a shout out. I'm getting close also. I want to get all my ducks in a row before I launch. I'm definitely doing a calculator. I think Jackson set the standard and also Backerkit.com is a must with multiple add ons. Have you considered getting an LLC. I would hate to get sued for someone getting a paper cut. Plus you can get a resale certificate and submit it to USPCC. It's cheaper. Every day I'm getting surprised. Here I was thinking about giving a HUGE discount to Texas backers cos I want Texas to be the start of a stronghold and I found out it's going to be more expensive cos I have to collect sales tax. Uugg

Edit: Opps! meant LLC and I thought Rick was in the States.

"LLC", I'm assuming, Sprouts? I don't think you can with a non-resident ("alien" in legal terms), since Rick is - I would have to guess - a citizen of New Zealand. I might make a mess of things for IRS/tax reasons, as well. LLC's vary from state to state for their exact conditions and consideration. IANAL but I used to be the South Carolina Bar's technical advisor for 15 years (association of state-qualified/certified/licensed legal practitioners for Rick), so I have been exposed to the underside of the beast. I can't say it will or won't work, but it's a good idea to maybe create a Delaware LLC if possible (no state taxes to collect there last I checked, your mileage may vary), again - a local (state of DE) attorney would need to be consulted to answer the "can a foreign citizen be a partner?" question. You'd think these days they could, but - again, might open a can-of-worms for taxation.

Basically a LLC ("LImited Liability Corporation") is a group of two or more partners making a small company designed to insulate each partner from the other liability-wise. Bottom line there is that nothing one partner can do can screw the other as for as liability. It lets everybody throw their cards on the table (pun intended).

Let me get a coffee and try and read that again.. Thanks, that's good info, something worth looking into. There certainly is a lot to cover in getting a deck of cards made, especially being outside the States.

Jack of all, Master of none? ;-)

So far from where I am now - I am a cyber terrorism expert and have worked as a federal / military network security officer for 15 years. I was at the Department of Justice (Executive Offices for United States Attorneys) for 8 years before I went back to Naval Intelligence. Belly of the beast, as I noted. Please don't consider it legal advice, I can't do that; just informed opinion and a definite heads up.

I hate to say it... but this one is struggling!

It would be unbelievable if this deck fails, as it is one of the most beautiful decks produced in years...

Has any other paper deck tried to start off with such a high KS goal?

Releasing Grail early would boost it by a big chunk and I'd be in for an art book like a shot (the comparison of the old art, to the current standards, to the Origins art is fascinating to sat the least)

Though, dare I say it, maybe a little extra colour may help?

I think it will be funded for sure.. but not sure about hitting some of the stretched goals. :(

There are a few paper deck projects with high funding goal (>=$30k)

Desjgn Playing Cards: 100% plastic playing cards (if you count plastic as paper) - $35k (Unsuccessful)
Apollo Playing Cards From 1890's - £25k - approx. $41k (Unsuccessful)
A French Revolution Playing Card Deck - $30k (Cancelled)
Sherlock Holmes - A playing card deck - $30k (Funded)

I'm shocked, classy deck, top shelf. Will be real disappointed if it doesn't fly, worsened the fact we won't get a shot at the Grail.

If Grail isn't reached then I wonder could it be another KS deck on it's own down the line?

This. The Origins court art with its soft half tones reminds me a lot of Emperor, but the latter uses bright color which I believe are more effective.

So, after Origins and Grail, the bright, splashy version can be V3. I'm in for all of 'em!

I actually prefer the nice, subdued, somewhat washed out colors being used in this deck over the harsh full frontal assault most decks hit your senses with.

Sherlock Holmes - A playing card deck - $30k (Funded)
So, none were successful besides Sherlock Holmes... which was actually multiple decks from the start.

So this would be an unprecedented amount for a single deck, i think...
Rick explained in the FAQ section why the funding goal is so high. There are a couple of reasons:
1. The use of special stock for the tuckbox (Soft touch midnight blue for the First Edition, and later Natural Pearl for the Grail)
2. Embossing and foil which are already included in the design of the deck from the start instead of a stretch goal
3. The use of Bee stock off-the bat instead of being a stretch goal.

I think Rick wanted to create a really premium deck so he included all those special features from the start and set the high goal. He could have set a lower goal without the special features and instead put them as stretch goals to have a better chance at getting the deck funded, but then there would be the chance that he will be producing a deck that didn't have all the features of his original concept. This happened to 4PM Designs. They launched their Kickstarter campaign for the Legacy decks with a low goal of $15,000 which would have been enough to produce and ship two of their decks, and put the extra features as stretch goals. Near the end of the campaign, it looked like they would make their $15,000 goal but their stretch goals were not within reach. They ended up canceling the campaign because they wanted to produce the deck with all the special features they planned (since they assumed they would hit the stretch goals, based on their other campaigns). They relaunched with a higher goal of $30,000 and included all the special features from the beginning.

I think this campaign will fund. It seems to be earning approximately $1,000 per day, which is just enough. Plus the boost at the end on the 48-hour mark. I didn't think the KADAR deck would make it, but it did, so there's a good chance this deck will make it, too.
