This isn't a zero-sum game! The funds raised for this campaign would not have gone towards e.g. Emmanuel. This deck is trash imo and objectively low-effort, agreed on that (no offense Deryn :D ). But what is disheartening about the campaign? What is disheartening about someone that creates something? Just because it isn't to ones quality demands or personal liking. Failing is the first part of getting better. Did the creator fail in creating an art piece? Hell yah! But who knows what this succes might spark in him? If it funds it funds and brings maybe some new folks to the card community that will invest future funds into more artistic decks.

I for my part would not buy Lotrék, S17 and other decks these days, if I didn't had clicked on that KumaFilms video featuring Zach Mueller showing fantastic isolations years ago.
Creators and brands that are consistently called low-effort, lazy and greedy have done more for the overall card community than the hungry artist that sits in his cellar creating amazing art that no one knows about. Sometimes it feels like we are the Parisian societe de arts fine and only Leonardo is allowed to be called great.

OPC for example. I don't buy any of their decks but seeing that they support the cardistry and magic community and how they inspire people to go out there and create is nothing but positive.

I don't know exactly what Deryn did to piss off Amy and LasVegasCards and I don't follow him on social media or anything. I saw him on reddit promoting his impossible bottles and seeing him on instagram in some KWP lives. That's all.

And seriouly, what is it that makes some call this a cardistry deck? The creator is not a cardist. He isn't active in the cardistry scene. This deck has nothing to enhance cardistry. Only because it is a joke/parody on OPC?
You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that’s being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.

I think in some people's eyes, any deck that has a single logo/clipart/whatever mirrored on a solid color background is a "cardistry deck". Which is more accurately labelled as a "casino deck", but of course so many early "cardistry decks" (or decks popular among cardists, at least) were casino decks like JNs, Wynns etc.

Perhaps I was hasty in categorizing this deck as a cardistry deck. I’ll admit, my experience with the cardistry world is fairly limited. It’s nice to hear a different perspective and you have a good point that, despite being lower in effort, other cardistry decks might actually add to the community, depending on what a collector finds important.

I definitely understand your point that support for one design does not mean those funds would have gone to another, had the first design never existed. For me, it’s a comparison of effort and the artistic experience when I compare a hype deck to a fully-custom design. My point of view is, admittedly, selfish. When I like a design, I simply need it to happen. When it doesn’t, I tend to get resentful of the support I see for decks that have the hype to transcend any need for custom artwork. That is what I find disheartening. The brilliant, starving artist is being passed by for the status quo.

Sure, Deryn has created something. I haven’t done shit. But my response is purely from a collector’s standpoint, and a picky one at that. I am amazed by these intricate and beautiful decks like Faunae, Culturae Animalis, Silk, Luminosity, and many more. I see artists share their process on IG and I am blown away, like with Rulers of Korea and Junghee’s timelapse paintings or Jackson’s live drafting sessions. Then I scratch my head seeing decks that are just drag-and-drop clip art, or a dot or a square or a trapezoid or a turd, with standard faces. There’s a disconnect for me, between those two groups. It will be a while before I see them as one group and one community but it certainly helps to see things from the other side of the aisle. Thanks for your response, Harvonsgard. Great insight, homie.

What was originally a joke on Instagram should be left as a joke. Period.

The joke itself was a mock against a brand (OPC) that had no business with the creator, while the creator of this deck loved mocking at the brand's simplicity and "underwhelm," which he deemed unworthy of its wide popularity. Now with this project live on Kickstarter and being called out here for being a collection of cliparts, it's a pity to see the mocker being mocked now for not even creating something up to the standards of what it tended to mock in the very beginning, as well as struggling even to get funded. In fact, the original motivation behind the Noodler campaign was to prove that decks like the OPC "-ers" series could be created in a split second without any effort. But boy, how the tides have turned against the mockers now: Noodlers tried nothing more than to prove that playing card designs could be created so easily without thought and with clipart, but eventually imploded against itself and proved the exact opposite---that well-received playing card designs are done with care and effort and not with a simple mindset to mock other creations. Simply nothing is original in this deck, not even the design process, not even the design itself, not even the name, and not even the intent.

Parody is not mocking; mocking is far lesser than parody.

It would be fine if the deck were created as a small batch and as a joke for friends who share the same humor, but I guess the results now just show how little the followers on Instagram really appreciated the joke after all (excluding the backers who don't know the backstory to this deck).

I can understand some people strong opinions here, but for me, all it would have taken would have been a cutesy tuck that wasn't trying to resemble food packaging and matched the rest of the deck.

I guess also a price that matched what it was. No tuck embossing or foil. Glossy finish. No metallics or foil on the cards. That should be a sub $10 deck. Maybe 10 with fantastic art.

I'll stand behind liking the courts and back. It was just too much for not enough.

Are you kidding? Your Room17 display frame is an awesome creation. Love that thing. You're always free to send me one for Easter, Christmas, Sabbath, Ramdan, Equinox or whatever holiday you need to have a good reason to send me one  .

I didn't checked your follower acc on insta but seeing Matt and you (and all others that I missed or didn't realized since I don't follow much folks on instagram) pushing Rulers of Korea and Luchadores surely helped both a lot and make you a second-hand-creator of those decks since you actively helped to bring these decks from the mists of minds into the realm of material reality (after the hopefully succesful production).

I'm with you on all you've wrote in your posts and understand the feelings (which I share to a huge part), I just left my two cents to encourage everyone to focus on the positive aspects and kinda to remind as well that one man's trash is the next man's treasure.

Like Azazaaz wrote in another thread, nothing good comes from too much categorization and, if I'm allowed to paraphrase here, seperation.
