I don’t really understand the dynamics of KS campaigns. This is so beautiful deck and so well maintained campaign. How is it possible that it isn’t a instant hit?

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
Thanks for the support guys - it can be frustrating to see other decks funding but we're confident that this one will look amazing, and will be even better than Fillide.
We would like to have launched earlier in the year when people aren't spending for the holidays, and we would like to have been able to wait for every to see how great the Fillide decks turned out before launching but you live and learn.
It picked up a little at the weekend and we had a couple of great meetings with our local magic shop who happily (and very quickly) picked up a few bricks of Fillide to start selling for Black Friday and Christmas. We have exclusive distribution with Murphy's in the states for Fillide as of Monday I reckon when the decks arrive with them, so things are very positive in general.
We've no doubt about there being demand in the future for the deck. Now comes the question of how we can make up this gap in funding. We will be getting creative next week and seeing if we can do something with playing card vendors in the area.

It can be done... I was less optimistic last week but things seemed to have picked up after Thanksgiving (man, you guys really take that stuff seriously huh?). Avoiding heavy cancellations and picking up a few bakers a day we might just get over the line with the 48hr mailout.theCapraAegagrus wrote:25% to go with 1 week left? Fingers crossed.

I haven't seen a single cross promotion. I personally don't know how useful it will be BUT I've also seldom (if ever?) seen a campaign fail that wasn't cross promoted. Reach out to Gio or TGW or someone who's recently had a very successful campaign and see if they can blast out a quick "projects we like" update. Can't hurt to ask!

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
It definitely works, we had a lot of success doing it with our last campaign. Unfortunately apart from the fact that there aren't so many campaigns live right now, we're having trouble getting this organised with live campaigns. It's a shame really, as I don't see playing cards as a competitive thing, and it would be nice to share some audiences.vasta41 wrote:I haven't seen a single cross promotion. Giovanni has helped a lot though I should say, he has backed and mentioned us in his newsletter TGW also helped out majorly on the last campaign and continues to support. UCers are awesome

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
Besides launching during the 11/BF/CM period, I believe these factors also affect this :
- Subject matter. This deck is for art and history lovers along with serious deck collectors. Ppl like most of the UC folk. However, there is little speculative value in your decks compared to JN and even Ondrej's butterflies.
- August to Oct was a mad rush of KS projects. $ is tight for many, myself included.
-Compared to other KS card projects right now, your funding goal is $15k. The other projects don't have such a high goal usually $10k and below. For new creators, projects above $10k are not easy to hit. Maybe should have considered a lower goal with embossing and foil as stretch goals?
-For various reasons, 70 of the Filide backers didn't return. If all 70 backers backed 2 decks, you'll be much closer to funding.
Really hope the backers come in the last 2 days. This is such a beautiful and well-designed deck with a great theme which has not been explored. Don't give up, let's keep at it.

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
Well, for what it's worth I just received Fillide today. Granted, I'm probably among the last to receive it, since it came international via GW and was delayed by Thanksgiving and probably weather, but anyone who refuses to pledge for a campaign before the previous is in their hands would have not pledged for this until maybe now. Normally that might even be me but Jocu is very communicative here and on KS so I had no particular concern with pledging again.
But also, timed earlybird are a lot nicer I think. I wake up at 4:30 am local time and all EB were gone when I got out of bed and did morning computer business with breakfast, I just picked up one that someone else dropped later. Them's the breaks, but didn't Fillide have a 24 hour EB? That was great, I'm always relieved when I see timed EB because it means I won't miss out by having a regular schedule or living in a time zone inconvenient for that launch.
Still hoping to see this one fund, I think it's a beautiful deck and I always love a nature theme. Fillide is just as good as I'd hoped.

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
Thanks! We tweaked the campaign dynamics a bit this time so for the next campaign we'll be combining what worked on Fillide with TGM. We did launch at a time that was accessible for almost everyone but I would like literally everyone to have a shot at EBs. As you say, by limiting them backers had the opportunity to pick up dropped pledges this time, which cannot be done with timed ones.Outsider wrote:Well, for what it's worth I just received Fillide today. However next time I'm thinking of doing two waves, one at our usual time, limited, and another about 6-8 hours later, also limited. This'll be on the single and double deck tiers, and the higher tiers may have times. We definitely want everyone to get a shot, whilst also encouraging enough people to the higher tiers to get funded.
I agree with a lot of what both of you said, especially regarding timing and not having received Fillide yet. We did anticipate this, but as the alternative was to wait until February we decided it's now or never.Eric Lee wrote:Besides launching during the 11/BF/CM period, I believe these factors also affect this :

That said, the past couple of days have been on target backer-wise, and the last 48 hours usually provide at least 15-20% of your total funding so whilst it might be close, we're cautiously optimistic that we're on track.
However Eric we won't be compromising on the foil and embossing try telling the artist to make it a stretch goal and they'll explain it's an integral part of the design and that if you can't fund it to shelve it and launch a different deck.
I think she's right too... these projects take at least five or six months even once you have the design finalised. It would be a huge shame if at the end of it the deck isn't everything you wanted due to not hitting a stretch goal. I'd rather not produce it

Ah, yes. I should know better than to argue with the artists, especially Italian artists! I'm all for the foil and embossing after seeing how incredible Filide turned out with them (based on the pics, I've yet to get them as I use a shipping agent).Jocu wrote: However Eric we won't be compromising on the foil and embossing try telling the artist to make it a stretch goal and they'll explain it's an integral part of the design and that if you can't fund it to shelve it and launch a different deck.

I believe most of us on UC appreciate artists sticking to a the vision of their art and yet also willing to making adjustments at the same time. It's always a hard decision to compromise a stripped down version of your art vs actually getting that art produced and appreciated.

Re: NOW LIVE ON KICKSTARTER The Green Man by Jocu Playing Ca
It reminds me of the anecdote of an English journalist in an Italian restaurant who asked for a Margherita with anchovies. The waiter was confused;Eric Lee wrote:Ah, yes. "that's not a margherita".
"Yes, but it's a Margherita with anchovies".
"No... if you put anchovies on it it's no longer a Margherita".
This goes on for a while.
The deck is the deck, can you imagine Fillide without foil? It would seem incomplete
So some updates on The Green Man.
We've been working hard to reach a wide range of communities with the deck. The card-collecting community is rightfully stretched as we reach Christmas. Fortunately there are many fans of The Green Man, nature, folklore and the legends of Europe who have become involved through various channels. This is lovely, as the story of the deck is bringing people from all walks of life to the campaign and maybe even to card collecting, especially those decks with a strong theme like ours. This can only be good for future creators
We have a couple of big cross promotions lined up for the last couple of days, along with the usual 48 hour mailout to all project followers which is around 300 people for now, only 20% of whom have pledged already.
We have started a relationship with our local magic shop who now stocks Fillide, and they're watching the campaign closely as well, perhaps ready to step in if needed.
Without any major issues, I'm more optimistic now that we might just do it. Let's keep sharing and pushing and we can maybe make it a little less nail biting
Thank you!

A big thank you to Sextante as their well-timed cross-promotion has helped us surge torwards our goal with a couple of days to spare
Combined with a couple more promotions and the 48-hour mail out we’re all but there. Please don’t forget to add your booklets and coins in this last push if you haven’t already and any extra decks you might have your eyes on

Thanks guys! As we still have a bit of momentum we’ve add an achievable stretch goal of interior tuck printing. If anyone’s on the fence and waiting for general sale, don’t wait and you can help make it even better

Re: LAST 48 HOURS on KS The Green Man by Jocu Playing Cards
Hi guys! A little update from Jocu and The Green Man.
We mentioned in our latest update that we're forcing a short delay in order to source local suppliers for the boxes. There are a few reasons for this, and it's always something we planned to do once we had more freedom as it means we can monitor the process ourselves. Printing cards with Cartamundi is a no-brainer - it's what they do. But the boxes could benefit from the extra care we can only give by being present and this is why we are looking for an artisan Italian letterpress printer to work with.
We will be visiting a couple this week and making a decision either way on what we do for the boxes, whether it be with Cartamundi again as with Fillide (they did a great job) or with the new company.
On top of this I am now almost full-time with Jocu, as Alessandra already effectively is. This means we will be focusing more on creating new decks, branching out into new styles and alternative projects within the card collecting/card magic worlds.
We are working on three decks at the moment, one of which will be ready to launch when The Green Man fulfils and hopefully another that won't necessarily be on Kickstarter. It's gonna be an exciting year!
Thanks to everyone who's supported us so far and of course to everyone at UC for your invaluable input and help. Even if you're yet to grab a Jocu deck, what we have planned will get you on board for sure
Further updates will be posted on our KS and IG pages for backers and general supporters. Thank you!

Re: The Green Man by Jocu Playing Cards
Just had a catch up with the printing house and the plates are ready for the foiling and embossing. Really pleased with the detail on these! We're going down there next week to see some of the machines in action and monitor the process. Updates to follow
