I did mistype - 'Jacob's Bible Cards' is even written on the jokers in the picture...

The are the signs of the zodiac, but a little reading (ok, googling) seems to reveal that the connection between the the 12 tribes and the 12 tribes is really more of a scholarly correllation of two ancient civilizations basedl argely on vague allusions found in Genisis.

But they look good on the cards either way!

Thanks for the background info - I like the idea of the one way full portrait court cards, and the unusual suits of the originals. :)

More on the Zodiac/Tribes thing when I have more time.

To see the single-ended courts, and the Palestine Play-cards, see this page from 1998:

Found this deck on a recent trip to another city. It was first published by Nintendo in 1978 but I think this back design (much improved) is a later printing. Each card features a different illustration of the Ainu people (aboriginal Japanese). The wwpcm has them titled as "Tsumura Juntendo" but that may just be the company that commissioned them? I know them, and have seen them around, titled as "Ainu". There is another version from around 1985, with double ended courts, that is called Ainu 2, but I like the court figures in this one much more.

Could someone let me know if they are able to view the whole image? I sometimes can't see a full pic because it's too big and doesn't have a slider bar. Would like to know if mine are doing that as well.

Nice one, Johanes.

I got my Santa backs by lucking out on a pair of Holiday backs I got a while back which had Santa backs inside the Holiday back boxes.

That's what I bought, and Holiday backs are easier and cheaper to come by than Santa backs. Imagine my surprise when I opened them :) Though only one of them was sealed, the other was opened and slightly used. But both had Santa back cards inside. And of course I had to buy another set to get actual Holiday backs

EDIT: Just looked more closely at that listing you linked to, and mine was just sold as Holiday backs by someone who probably hadn't looked twice at the actual cards. I wonder if there's a way to distinguish the "defect" ones without opening them? This seller should be able to answer that since he's selling them unopened.

Ah, the first one is always the best, especially if you're a flourisher. I still have my very first deck of Tally Ho Fan Backs, it's so over-saturated with fanning powder it holds together like nothing else :D (Cobra cuts anyone?)

Well. I'm no flourisher (not that there's anything wrong with that...), but I still have the first deck I bought which started me on this obsession/addiction/collection.

Pretty impressive, since I bought it 45 years ago, in 1968, when I was ten years old!

Wow. I thought about getting the Stranger and Stranget collector box...but it's soooo much money. Do you feel it's worth the price?

I too think is way too much money!! But my family insisted!!!

If it's worth the money....
I've to say that I was astonished by the box and the velvet pouches, everything looks great and for every cards lover is for sure a must have... When you hold the box in your hands it feels great, the material used make it feel great, I wish some tuck cases could be done in the same material!!

As for the money, no I think that $100 would be a fair price for the whole thing, but $200 + shipping is way too much!

Picked this up at an antique store today - no idea what year the KEM case is from

The 808's I figure are from 1984 based on the amount of fading and grime on them

CODE F's were printed in either 1924 1944 1964 1984 2004

* what I typed was confusing, so I cleaned up my typos

I love how you went from "I have no idea what year" to "1984".

I think the "no idea" is more "I have no clue about the date except for the letter".

From the wear on the Ace and the style of the cover, though, I'd lean more to 1964. What's that cover made of?

Anyway, 2004 seems too recent and 1944 too early.

Nice find.

Having recently started, I don't have much - but here is what I do have.

The Ghost (1 ed), Black Tiger (Red pips), Black Tiger (Silver pips), See-Thru, Standard Rider (black design), Poker Peek, Masters Red, Tragic Royalty, and Guardians are opened. Ghost was played with once Tiger (red pips) heavily used, and the rest were just opened and never touched beyond looking at the cards once before being put back in the tuck box.

Sultan Republic, White Artisan, Black Artisan are unopened (as they will stay).

En route: Stranger and Stranger "Ultimate Deck" (will remain unopened), Animal Kingdom, Monarch, Bicycle 125th Anniv., and California Blue Plaid.

And, as a birthday gift, a friend of mine bought me some Vintage decks of Grimaud NAPOLEON PLAYING CARDS c1967 (red and green decks - green open, red unopened), which I won't get those until next week - but I'll snap a pic of them then.

On my list to get are JAQK (red or blue), Rebels

From Kickstarter

Federal 52 Series 2 LE Reserve unbranded X2, Silver Note (branded & Unbranded), Reserve Note (breanded and unbranded), Whispering Imps, Alice of Wonderland, and Calaveras

Ha ha, I can see how you might get that. but there are 2 things in that picture.

I have no idea what year the KEM case is from... and the 808's are probably from the year blah de blah

I was more excited about the KEM case than the old yellowed dirtied cards. I highly doubt the vintage KEM case goes with the cards. The KEM case is blue vinyl.

Either you have edited the post to make that clearer, or I was pretty dense when I read it the first time (neither would greatly surprise me).

Either way, thanks for the clarification.

ha ha - I added the words "KEM case" you're not dense. I'm just a knuckle head.

Just got a surprise from my hubby today. Apparently after I showed him my new storage box I just put my baby collection in (35 decks total, lol), he decided the box was too empty and popped on ebay and bought a bunch of decks for me. And he did it all sneaky like saying he bought stuff for himself instead, so I never knew until today when they all showed up. So here's my surprise haul:

Image

He picked everything except the 2 Tally-Ho decks and the 2 Blades decks which I bought the other day. My favorite right now is the Babel deck which I had never seen before and all the aces are custom which I love. Needless to say, I'm very happy!

charlie :)
